I’m always thinking about footwear as part of the outfit, not just the thing you put on at the end. I’m styling three of my top picks from FRANKIE4 Footwear to show you how i’d wear them, with a little bit of the thinking behind each look.

For me, versatility isn’t about one shoe having to work with absolutely everything. It’s having a mix of footwear that gives you options across your wardrobe.

Okay, I get the nanoplasty hype now 👀

I kept hearing about it for a while, but would it work for afro textured hair, let’s just say I was a little skeptical . If it wasn’t permanently straightening my hair, was it actually going to relax my curl enough to make a difference.. Because permanent chemical straightening. Been there, done that. We’re not going back there.

I had a consultation with GEELONG HAIRDRESSER first, we talked through my hair and what I was hoping to get out of the treatment,
Nanoplasty smooths the hair and helps reduce frizz without permanently straightening it. Jorja used BKT Beauty Professional on my hair, which is vegan, cruelty free, blonde and friendly and is made in Brazil.

And I am SO happy with the result. My hair feels incredibly soft and hydrated, the shine is 🤌🏾 and my curl has relaxed so much.

Jorja is based in Geelong and honestly, even if you’re not local, worth the travel.

I really just wanted to share my experience because before I did it, I wanted to see what nanoplasty could actually look like on textured hair.

(Just sharing my own experience and results here. As with any hair treatment, results can vary depending on your hair, so a consultation is always a good place to start)

Can I tell you something I’ve noticed after years of styling women

A lot of us shop for individual pieces. We see something. We like it. We buy it. And it actually makes sense. In that moment, we might be thinking about that piece, not necessarily everything that’s sitting in our wardrobe at home.

Sometimes it’s not until we get home that we realise…
— I don’t actually have a top to go with this
— I need a different shoe for it
— it only works with one thing I own
— I’m missing the simpler pieces that would actually help me style it
— somehow I need to go shopping AGAIN to wear the thing I just bought 😂

And this is one of the reasons you can have A LOT of clothes, but still feel like you don’t have a lot of outfits or anything to wear.

One of the biggest tips I can give you as a stylist, start thinking about outfits vs pieces when you shop.

It doesn’t mean every single thing you buy has to work 17 different ways. You can absolutely buy something simply because you love it.

But think about how you’re actually going to wear it. What do you already own that works with it? Can you picture the outfit, not just the piece? maybe you need to invest in another piece for it to become more versatile etc

And no, this doesn’t mean we can’t occasionally buy the completely unnecessary fabulous thing (Guilty 😂)

But if you’ve got a wardrobe full of clothes and getting dressed still feels hard, this is one of the first things I’d start paying attention to 🫶

If you love colour, this is one to have on your radar for spring/summer.

Think aqua, turquoise, teal, those beautiful tropical blues and blue/greens. We’re already seeing them come through, and there’s plenty more on the way as we get further into the warmer months.

They look beautiful paired back with neutrals, but don’t stop there. These colours look INCREDIBLE with other bold colours and even print (hello zebra print) Case in point, aqua and red.

It might not be the first combination you’d think to put together, but this is exactly why I love playing around with colour. Sometimes the unexpected combinations are the good ones

Okay, so what exactly does $1,400 worth of hair tool actually DO?

Quick context if you missed part one, this particular Airwrap for curly and coily hair isn’t stocked in Australia, I bought it from the UK and had my mother in-law ship it over to me… which added another $200. So yes, we’re now VERY invested in seeing what this thing can do 😂

For part 2 and also 3, I’ve called in someone who actually knows what she’s talking about, my friend , a hairdresser to help me break down all the attachments, what they actually do and which ones could be useful for my afro hair. Because opening that box… I had questions, many many questions ha

Part three is where we actually put it to work to see if it’s worth the investment. Romy and I will give you a demo, share our thoughts and see whether this very investment might actually buy me back some time.

Spring usually marks the start of event season and I, for one, LOVE an excuse to get dressed up.

Sheer has been building for the past few seasons, but what I’m loving now is how many different interpretations we’re seeing. From subtle sheer details and layering pieces, through to sheer being the main feature of the look, there are so many ways to play with it depending on your personal style.
