If I could go back to the beginning of my bridal career, these are the things I wish I understood earlier.

1. Being talented is only part of the job.

Bridal is also timelines, suppliers, different personalities and busy environments.

✨ Learn the wedding morning, not just hair & makeup. Communicate clearly, understand timelines and be prepared. The more organised you are, the calmer the morning feels.

2. Efficiency is a skill.

There’s nothing wrong with taking longer, but weddings have deadlines. Creating your best work within a bridal timeline is a skill in itself.

✨ Practise your most requested looks repeatedly and notice where you lose time. Speed isn’t rushing — it’s confidence in your technique.

3. Longevity matters.

Your work needs to look beautiful hours later, not just when they leave your chair.

✨Learn how different hair and skin behaves. Consider humidity, tears, sweat and veils. Look at photos later in the day and learn from what lasted.

4. Learn how to consult.

“Natural”, “soft” and “not too glam” mean something different to everyone.

✨Ask questions. Use references. Find out what they love AND what they don’t. Your job is to translate their vision into something that suits them.

5. Invest heavily in education.

I’ve invested thousands into education and I still do.

✨Learn from artists you admire. Take the class. Book the 1:1. Then PRACTISE what you learn.
And don’t underestimate the connections you make. Education introduces you to other artists, friendships, referrals and opportunities you may never have had otherwise.

And lastly, your energy matters.
Be calm. Organised. Warm. Be someone your bride feels completely comfortable having in the room.
They’ll remember how you made them look, but they’ll also remember how you made them feel.

Bridal artists, what do you wish you knew earlier?

You can book an incredible artist and still walk away from your bridal trial feeling like something wasn’t quite right.
And sometimes, it isn’t because the hair or makeup was badly done.
A great trial is a collaboration.
Your artist brings their skill, experience and professional opinion — but we also need you to bring some direction, honest communication and, most importantly, trust.
You don’t need to know exactly what you want. Part of my job is asking the right questions and helping you work that out.
But I need to know you.
Do you actually feel comfortable with your hair up? Do you hate things touching your face? How much makeup do you normally wear? What makes you feel beautiful? What makes you feel uncomfortable?
And then there’s the inspiration.
Sometimes you don’t actually love the makeup in that Pinterest photo.
You love the woman wearing it.
Her features. Her skin. Her colouring. Her hair density. Her overall look.
Inspiration gives us a direction — it doesn’t guarantee the exact same result on a completely different person.
The same goes for hair. Sometimes the style you’ve saved needs extensions. Sometimes your texture, density or haircut won’t support it. Sometimes I know that Queensland humidity, wind or an outdoor ceremony is going to compromise it.
Telling you that isn’t me questioning your vision.
It’s me using my experience to protect it.
And please — speak up during your trial. Show me photos. Tell me what’s bothering you. Tell me what you LOVE.
A trial isn’t a test to see whether your artist can read your mind.
It’s where we figure it out together, so on your wedding morning there are no surprises.
Choose an artist whose work you genuinely love, then allow their expertise to be part of the process.
The best results happen when there is direction, communication and trust on both sides. 🤍
Save this before your bridal trial.

After years of being behind the scenes at weddings, I’ve realised I can usually tell within minutes how the morning is going to unfold.
The good news? Almost all of these are preventable.
🚩 The bride hasn’t eaten.
Adrenaline isn’t breakfast. A little food and water can make a huge difference to how you feel later in the day.
🚩 The photographer arrives early.
I love working with photographers, but if they arrive before the agreed time, everyone suddenly thinks they’re behind schedule—even when they’re not. The calm disappears and the rushing begins.
🚩 Mum starts carrying everyone’s stress.
Mums want everything to be perfect, but they often end up taking on everyone else’s worries too. That’s one of the reasons I usually schedule Mum towards the end of the morning.
🚩 Nobody knows where the rings are.
Or the shoes. Or the veil. Or the jewellery. Suddenly everyone’s searching instead of enjoying the morning.
🚩 The bridesmaids keep disappearing.
“She’ll only be a minute...” 😂 Every little delay adds up.
🚩 Everyone keeps asking the bride questions.
“Where are the shoes?”
“What time are we leaving?”
“Have you seen the rings?”
The bride shouldn’t be managing logistics while she’s getting ready. Let her enjoy becoming a bride.
✨ Beautiful hair and makeup is only part of a great wedding morning. A calm atmosphere is what everyone remembers.
