Here's something you might not know: over 80% of eye surgeons are men, and the advice they most often give patients is simply to stop wearing eye makeup.

It's guidance that's been passed down through generations of eye surgeons. But so much has evolved since then, and the "just stop" advice hasn't kept up.

That's exactly why Dr Jacqui created OKKIYO. Made especially for sensitive eyes, so no one has to give up wearing the makeup they love.

Ever wondered what actually goes into testing a mascara before it reaches your lashes? Dr Jacqui has.

She's travelled to Italy multiple times to see exactly how OKKIYO is tested and manufactured, including a visit to the testing facility itself. In this one she talks through what goes into testing mascara, why it matters for your eye health, and why it makes all the difference for people with sensitive eyes and skin.

"Why isn't it preservative free?" Great question, and Dr Jacqui's answering it properly.

We genuinely tried. We love preservative-free eye drops for our patients with sensitive eyes, so we tested a lot of preservative-free versions of the balm too.

In theory, we can make it preservative free in the lab because there's no water in the formula.

But here's the catch: cleansing balm gets used in your bathroom, where there's moisture everywhere. That moisture can introduce bacteria, and when a contaminated balm goes near your eyes, it can cause infections. Not worth the risk.

So Bella's been trialling exactly which preservative works best in our balm to keep it safe for your skin and your eyes.

One of the questions we're asked most often is, "Does OKKIYO test on animals?"

The short answer is no.

It's a question that's become increasingly common because "cruelty-free" has become such a prominent message in the beauty industry. Naturally, that leads many people to wonder whether it's something they should be checking before they buy.

The good news is that regulations around cosmetic animal testing have changed significantly over time, particularly in Australia and Europe, where there are strong restrictions on animal testing for cosmetics. That means it's no longer the point of difference it once may have been.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with asking the question because as consumers, we should all feel empowered to understand the products we're buying.

What we'd love to see more of is the conversation shifting towards the things that genuinely differentiate one product from another:
