Motherhood is full of little moments we do not realise we will miss until they are gone.

I am learning to slow down and really notice them while I still can.

Follow along for the real, messy, beautiful bits of motherhood. 🤍

I know I have been both Mum 1 and Mum 2 in different moments.

There have been times I have stopped what I was doing, got down to my child’s level and listened.

And there have absolutely been times when I was tired, busy, overstimulated and reacted before I really listened.

We are human. We are going to have those moments.

But what matters is what our children feel overall.

When they come to you with a mistake, you can still hold the boundary while showing them that they are more important than the mistake.

You can say:

“I am upset that this happened, but I am glad you told me.”

“We will clean it up together.”

“Next time, what could we do differently?”

And if you have reacted harshly?

Go back. Repair.

“I am sorry I shouted. You did the right thing by telling me. I want you to always be able to come to me.”

Because the goal is not to become a parent who never gets frustrated.

It is to become the parent your child knows they can come back to.

Today it is a broken vase.

One day, it could be something much bigger.

Make sure they know: whatever happened, you still want to hear it. ❤️

Follow me for realistic parenting support, from one mum to another.

A toddler’s default answer to direct demands is almost always "NO" because direct commands threaten their independence.

When you shift the phrasing, you instantly bypass power struggles:

❌ "Put your shoes on right now."
✅ "Do you want to wear your red shoes or blue shoes?"

It gives them control over how they do it, while ensuring the outcome you need.

What an absolutely beautiful reminder for your brain everyday, that you are happy and healthy at cellular level

When a child repeatedly hears or sings a phrase, their brain creates and strengthens specific neural pathways.
Here is how it actually works inside the mind:

Neural Strengthening: The brain operates like a forest. Repeating a phrase like "every single cell is happy and well" builds a well-paved mental path, making positive self-talk their default habit over time.

Lowering Stress (Cortisol): Words that signal safety and health shift the nervous system away from "fight or flight" and into a calm, regulated state.

The "Reticular Activating System" (RAS): The brain’s RAS acts as a filter. Telling the brain that the body is strong and healthy trains it to focus on positive physical feelings rather than anxiety or discomfort.
It isn't magic or instant, it is basic habit formation.

Repeated positive inputs physically reshape how the brain processes thoughts and stress.

So don't forget to remind them everyday about their blessings including their healthy and happy body....

Sometimes the smallest change can create more opportunities for your toddler to communicate 🗣️💛

And if they do not say anything, that is okay too. You are not testing them. You are simply giving them the opportunity to respond.

Keep it relaxed and build these little moments into everyday life. ❤️

What was your toddler’s first word? 👇🏽 I will start with mine in comments.

If you are wondering what words to focus on first, start with the words your toddler can actually USE in everyday life. 🤍

Words like: Mama Dada More Up Go Help Open No Bye All done

You do not need to sit your toddler down and “teach” these words.

Use them naturally throughout the day.

“More?” “Up?” “Open?” “Go!” “Help mama.” “All done.”

And if you speak more than one language at home, use the language that feels natural to YOU. Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, or whatever your family speaks. ❤️

The goal is not perfect pronunciation or a long vocabulary list.

It is helping your child learn that words have power. They can ask, connect, protest, and communicate what they need.

Save this for the next time you are wondering, “What words should I be teaching my toddler?”

Follow for simple, practical speech and language tips you can actually use at home. 🗣️✨
