A question that stayed with me…

Recently, I applied for a yoga teaching position.

One of the first questions I was asked was:

“Apart from your 200-hour certification, how many additional training hours have you completed?”

It was a fair question.

But it also sparked many questions in my own mind.

When did Yoga become something we measure primarily in hours?

Can 500 hours guarantee wisdom?
Can 1000 hours guarantee humility?
Can a certificate measure self-realisation?

The more I reflected, the more I appreciated studios that openly say:

“We teach yoga mainly for physical fitness.”

There is honesty in that.

What concerns me more is when a studio describes itself as “traditional”, yet the teaching rarely reflects the depth of the tradition—where philosophy is reduced to a few quotes, pranayama is rushed, meditation is an afterthought, and the ancient Guru–Shishya spirit is replaced by marketing language.

Traditional Yoga was never just about movement.

It was about discipline, self-inquiry, ethics, breath, meditation, and transformation.

Certificates matter. They help establish minimum standards and promote safety.

But they are only the beginning of the journey—not its destination.

Perhaps the question we should ask every Yoga teacher isn’t:

“How many hours have you completed?”

Instead, ask:

“How has Yoga transformed your life—and how does that transformation flow into your teaching?”

Because Yoga is not simply taught.

It is lived.

TRATAKA — The Ancient Art of Steady Gazing 👁️🕯️
In Yoga, Trataka is more than looking at a flame.

It is the practice of becoming so still… that the mind slowly stops pulling you in every direction.

The eyes become steady.
The breath softens.
Thoughts begin to lose their grip.

Short Step-by-Step Guide 🧘‍♂️

-Sit comfortably with the spine upright.

-Place a candle at eye level, about arm’s distance away.

-Keep the body relaxed and gaze gently at the flame.

-Try not to blink, but don’t force or strain.

-When eyes water or feel tired, close them softly.

-Visualise the flame at the centre of the eyebrows.

Sit quietly for a few breaths and observe the stillness.
Start with 1–3 minutes only.

Stillness is not something we create.

It is something we uncover.

Grateful for this kind of feedback 🙏✨

Not for me — but as proof that these ancient yogic practices still work, even in today’s modern world.
In the middle of all the new breathwork trends,
the roots are still strong 🌿

And it quietly tells me…
this small experiment of sharing with the modern generation is reaching where it needs to 💫
