When most people think about colour analysis, they think about clothing.

The perfect jumper.
The ideal neutral.
The colours that make getting dressed easier.

But one of the most transformative applications of colour is often overlooked.

Makeup.

After all, colour analysis is about creating harmony and drawing focus to the face. Yet many people continue wearing makeup that competes with their natural colouring rather than complementing it.

And finding the right shades isn’t always straightforward.

Misleading labels.
Confusing undertone descriptions.
Products that look one way in the tube and completely different on the skin.
Advice that sounds convincing but somehow never quite works.

This was one of those analyses where the harmony revealed itself very quickly.

As we moved through the drapes, one undertone seemed to quietly fade into the background while the other stepped forward effortlessly. The skin became brighter, more even and more connected, creating a sense of harmony that was difficult to ignore.

What I find most interesting is that clients often notice the shift before they can explain it. They can see that something has changed, even if they haven’t quite found the words for it yet.

That’s the beauty of in-person draping.

It’s not about being told the answer. It’s about seeing the interactions for yourself and building the confidence to trust what you’re seeing.

And what a powerful feeling that is ✨

It’s one of the most common things I hear during a colour analysis.

And honestly, I agree.

When you’re looking at yourself, you’re often trying to process multiple things at once. The colour. The reflection. Your preferences. What you’re used to seeing.

What’s fascinating is that we often notice a change before we can explain it.

Something looks brighter.
Softer.
More harmonious.
Porcelain skin- but fresh & even or washed out?
Colour change but is glowy or jaundiced?

We can see the reaction before our brain has fully worked out why it’s happening.

That’s why in-person draping is so powerful.

It’s not just about the interaction the colour has with the skin. It’s about stepping back and observing the overall harmony.

Often the answer is already there.

And sometimes there’s an instant sense that everything has fallen into place.

The overall impression becomes effortless.

It’s a simple reminder that building a versatile wardrobe isn’t always about having more clothes. Sometimes it’s about having the right supporting pieces to create completely different looks from the same foundation.

This is also why I’m such a big believer in identifying your signature colours and repeating them throughout your wardrobe.

When your shoes, accessories and clothing all connect back to the same colour story, everything starts to work harder. Outfits come together more easily, purchases become more intentional, and getting dressed requires a lot less thought.

The strongest wardrobes aren’t usually the biggest.

They’re the ones where everything belongs together ✨

One of my favourite moments in every colour analysis is the reveal.

Not because I’m telling someone the answer, but because they get to see it for themselves.

These drapes have been carefully curated within the Absolute Colour System to create specific reactions in the skin. As we work through the process together, clients begin to notice those interactions for themselves. The brightness. The clarity. The harmony.

Often but not always, there’s already a level of intuition there.

They’ve sometimes been drawn to certain colours their whole life without fully understanding why.

In this case, the warmth brought so much life and harmony through the face almost instantly. A beautiful creaminess through the complexion, more brightness through the lips, and a softness around the eyes that made everything feel more connected.

This is the part people often struggle to explain before having their colours done. They know certain tones feel better… but not always why.

Sometimes the shift is immediate. Other times it’s more subtle and you need to look a little closer at:

– clarity
– brightness
– evenness through the skin
– where the face naturally comes to life

One of the things I love most about this work is watching people recognise themselves again.

Most of you guessed cool… and this was such a clear example of it ✨

In the warmer drapes, a yellow cast started to appear through the skin and the complexion lost some of its natural clarity.

Once we moved into the cooler tones, everything lifted. The skin appeared brighter, clearer and more even almost instantly.

What made Erin especially interesting was that although the coolness was dominant, she had struggled to fully place herself beforehand. Winter colours felt too high contrast, while softer Summer tones left her looking washed out.

This is the beauty of the Absolute Colour System developed by Imogen Lamport. It allows for far more nuance than simply placing someone into a traditional seasonal box.

You can absolutely be deep and cool while still having softness.
