ABC Botanical Creams
Handcrafted small-batch botanical cream. Arnica, boswellia + traditional herb. No menthol, no camphor
๐งช What's actually in ABC โ and what does it do?
We don't use herbs because they're "natural."
We use them because they contain compounds with known actions.
๐ฟ **Boswellia serrata**
Contains **boswellic acids** (especially AKBA).
These help block **5-LOX**, an enzyme involved in producing inflammatory chemicals called leukotrienes.
= less inflammatory signalling around irritated joints, tendons, and soft tissues.
๐ผ **Arnica**
Contains **helenalin**.
Helenalin helps regulate inflammatory pathways, including **NF-ฮบB**, which acts like a master switch for inflammation.
= helps calm the body's overreaction after bumps, bruises, strains, and minor injuries.
๐ **Comfrey**
Contains **allantoin** and **rosmarinic acid**.
**Allantoin** supports tissue repair and regeneration.
**Rosmarinic acid** helps reduce inflammation and oxidative stress in damaged tissue.
= helps support the repair process while calming irritation in muscles, tendons, and ligaments.
Three plants. Three different jobs.
One goal:
Help the body move from inflammation and irritation back toward repair and recovery.
Arnica: the one everyone knows.
Bruises. Bumps. Sprains. Sore muscles.
Walk into any pharmacy and you'll find arnica somewhere.
The active compound is helenalin, a plant chemical that helps regulate inflammation. That's why arnica has been used for centuries for bruising and soft-tissue injuries.
And now for the weird fact...
Swiss mountain shepherds once smoked arnica leaves to treat altitude sickness and headaches. The same plant used on bruises was once rolled into ci******es.
Why use arnica?
Not because it's famous.
Because when properly extracted and applied, helenalin gives the plant a genuine biological effect.
The herb everyone knows.
The science most people don't.
๐ณ Two trees. One name. Completely different jobs.

Comfrey: Knitting bone
Used for 2,000 years for bruises, strains, sore joints, tendons, and recovery.
What's in it:
Allantoin โ tissue repair and regeneration
Rosmarinic acid โ calms inflammation and oxidative stress
Mucilage โ soothes and moisturises tissues
Safety:
โ Never drink comfrey tea
โ Never apply to open or broken skin
โ
Topical use on intact skin only
The concern is pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs). But drinking and applying are not the same thing.
Research shows beneficial compounds absorb through healthy skin, while *PA absorption is extremely low โ far below levels associated with safety concerns.
Used correctly, comfrey remains one of the most studied and effective traditional herbs for muscle, tendon, and joint support.
2,000 years later, people still reach for it.
Not because of folklore.
Because it works.

Boswellia serrata, also known as Indian frankincense, is a resin harvested from the bark of trees native to India and the Middle East. For thousands of years it has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for joint comfort and inflammation. Modern research isolates boswellic acids โ the active compounds that specifically inhibit the 5-LOX inflammatory pathway, the same cascade that drives joint swelling and tissue irritation.
Unlike NSAIDs such as ibuprofen or diclofenac, boswellic acids do not damage cartilage or disrupt glycosaminoglycan synthesis. I use a concentrated 65% standardized extract โ not ground herb powder โ at a dose backed by multiple randomized controlled trials.
The Base Is Half the Formula
A cream is only as good as what carries them into your skin.
Almond and apricot kernel oils โ light, fast-absorbing carriers. They dissolve the lipophilic compounds (the stuff that doesn't like water) and get them moving toward your tissue instead of sitting on top like grease.
Propylene glycol โ is a pe*******on enhancer. Opens the door through your skin barrier so the boswellic acids and arnica constituents actually reach the underlying tissue. Most herbal creams skip this because it sounds chemical. That's precisely why they don't do much beyond smell nice.
Glycerine + emulsifier system โ holds the oil and water phases together as a stable cream. The glycerine also happens to be the same base my liquid extracts are in, so everything blends clean โ no separation, no gritty texture, no snotty lumps.
The point: Your skin is a barrier, not a sponge. Throwing actives into a cheap lotion is like putting premium fuel in a car with a clogged filter. The base is the delivery system.
