🇺🇸🇸🇦🇦🇪🇶🇦🇰🇼🇧🇭 Gulf Allies Grow Uneasy Over Trump’s Iran War Strategy
Concerns and frustration are reportedly growing among America’s Gulf allies over President Donald Trump’s handling of the Iran conflict, with regional governments increasingly questioning the reliability and long-term consistency of U.S. policy.
According to The Washington Post, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain remain heavily dependent on the United States for security guarantees, military cooperation and advanced defense capabilities. However, officials across the Gulf are increasingly looking at alternative options as they reassess their strategic dependence on Washington.
The uncertainty surrounding the U.S. approach to Iran has reportedly reinforced concerns that American policy could shift rapidly depending on political circumstances in Washington. For Gulf governments, the experience has raised difficult questions about how much they can rely on the United States in the event of another major regional crisis.
Rather than immediately turning away from Washington, Gulf states are increasingly seeking to diversify their security partnerships. One emerging priority is strengthening defense cooperation among the Gulf countries themselves, including greater coordination on air defense, missile threats, intelligence sharing and regional security planning.
The shift does not necessarily mean that Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain are preparing to abandon their long-standing relationship with the United States. Washington remains central to their defense architecture, particularly because of its military presence, advanced weapons systems and intelligence capabilities.
However, the growing emphasis on regional defense cooperation reflects a broader strategic calculation: Gulf states want greater control over their own security and fewer vulnerabilities arising from changes in U.S. foreign policy.
The developments could have significant long-term consequences for the Middle East. If Gulf countries deepen their independent defense coordination while simultaneously maintaining ties with Washington, the region could gradually move toward a more diversified security structure rather than one dominated almost entirely by the United States.
