Yesterday we went out location scouting for our annual Open Day event. The Open Day is a Day where we invite all off-road enthusiasts, overlanders and adventures lovers to come spend the day with us at a location near Gaborone.

It is a family friendly day event from 9am until sunset where we get to test the performance of our 4x4 vehicles on some rugged terrain, chill and hangout with our friends and family. Look out for an announcement over the next few days.

Packing up at AOC is such a big deal. Especially so when the trip is for a number of days. We try to compartmentalize our food, ice and beverages. O fitlhela di gricery di phatlaladitswe haatshe okare go kgaoganwa dijo tsa motshelo! A check list is very important as once in the bush, you have no access to shops. It is always a group effort except for a few lads who would rather sip on their wine and Crack daddy jokes.πŸ˜…

When the pandemic hit in 2020, we all wished we had done more to travel and explore the country and beyond. We wished we had done a bit more to feed that adventure craving, to be away from the city, one with nature. Some months later, a WhatsApp group was formed between mutual friends who shared a similar passion. We just wanted to be in the bush.

The following year in 2021, our maiden trip was held. We got a few supplies of meat, braai accessories and some drinks then we took a young drive to Kgatleng, around Sikwane. We identified an open spot and setup a lunch in the middle of nowhere. This was the first official AOC trip.

We broke bread, laughed and danced and the general idea of what we have today was born.

Ha e duma ea tsamaya, ga e emele ope!

AOC morning game drives are a ritual, imagine staying at camp alone for hours. Here Billa had underestimated the cold weather of Khutse and came apere di shorti. Him and Thanos love this superman thing of riding in the back..."re pagama ko morago re batla go bona diphologolo sentle re sa siriwe ke di head rest".

A few meters he was like, noo man, serame se se bogale. He jumped off the car and dashed to go get his gown.

Elephant sightings have now become a normal thing in Khutse. This was a very rare sighting in the heart of the Kalahari basin some years ago. The establishment of permanent water points has largely contributed to this development. Observation is that only bachelor herds make it to Khutse.

HA GO NA KGOMO YA BOROKO AT CAMP
Every morning at camp means you wake up early, brush your teeth, tsaya omang then grab a snack and beverage of choice as we need to be at the nearest waterhole by dawn so we stalk it for a couple of hours. This is a camping ritual and there is no time for sleep.

Ba gana go rola dikepese bo , monna o tsoga a rwele kepese ebe bo sa bo a pele πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚!

A very big part of the AOC lifestyle is food! Dijo, dia maleng, botsogo! Bagaetsho, we are all foodies and we love ourselves a great meal. In the group, we have different members who have expertise in different dishes. For example, is very good with his quick rice meals, while is very popular with his madombi and oxtail one pot. will lay down a proper breakfast silently, while will keep you entertained and well hydrated πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚. All these boys gave us a treat in Khutse.

The experience was so great, our guests .bw and VJ from had this to say when asked if they would like to go to the bush again..."Definitely! The food was amazing, it was especially nice to enjoy food prepared authentically with lovely flavors and fully homemade on the spot..."

Cheers to many more excursions fellas!
