Happy Hicatee Day!🐢

The Hicatee, or Central American River Turtle, is one of the most threatened species of freshwater turtles in the world. Facing several threats such as over harvesting and habitat loss, this species was lost in much of its range.

However, through intensive conservation efforts, multi-organization collaboration and the support of communities across Belize, this turtle has been able to push on against extinction.
