Let’s explore Goldenrod, also known as Solidago Canadensis. This herb is a powerhouse for urinary health, seasonal allergies and reducing inflammation.

When identifying Goldenrod, look for tall stems, about 2-4 feet high, with lance-shaped leaves and bright yellow flowers in clusters at the top. And can you smell that? It’s got a distinctive, slightly sweet aroma.

When harvesting Goldenrod, it’s best to do so during peak bloom, usually late summer to early fall which is mid to late September in Ontario, Canada. Make sure to cut just above a node, and leave some stems intact for regrowth.

Did you know that Goldenrod is often misunderstood for causing allergies? Actually, it’s ragweed that’s the culprit! Goldenrod is a natural antiseptic and anti-inflammatory, perfect for wound care and soothing skin irritations.

When harvesting Goldenrod, remember to only take what you need, leave enough for other creatures and plant regrowth. Fortunately in Ontario it grows abundantly!

This is one of societies biggest challenges today in my opinion. We have been brought up to always act in a fearful state and just go with what we are told. It’s time to take our power back and do proper research before making decisions, especially for our health! When I’m asked where to look for information, I will always say books! Old books! Take the time to properly make an educated decision, especially when it comes to health !!

One of the many traditions I have continued in my family is making tomato sauce 🍅. Growing up as a kid it was one of the many times I got to hang out and spend time with my cousins, uncles and aunts. We would spend hours wash, cutting and processing tomatoes. It would be a full day event with lots of laughs, jokes and story telling. My grandparents brought this tradition to Canada from Italy for generations to continue. Although we don’t do it as big family anymore, we still do it with my parents every year to continue the traditions. My kids really enjoy this process and are great helpers! Grateful they can continue this tradition with us year after year. 😍
