Postpartum curls are no joke… and neither is motherhood. 🤍

It took me 6 weeks postpartum to finally style my wavy hair again. Before today, the last time I did my full hair routine was around 7.5 months pregnant.

Postpartum is WILD. Between the sleep deprivation, endless newborn snuggles, and trying to adjust to this whole new chapter, doing my hair just wasn’t a priority—and I didn’t pressure myself to make it one. I waited until I actually wanted to do it, and today felt like the right day.

Will I have time for this full curly hair routine every wash day? Definitely not. But when I do, it’s 100% worth it because my curls last so much longer, which means fewer refresh days and less work throughout the week.

Here’s my routine:
✨ Apply leave-in conditioner to soaking wet hair (Schwarzkopf Moisture Kick Leave-In Conditioner)
✨ Detangle
✨ Apply Innersense I Create Definition Styling Foam
✨ Define curls with a curl-defining brush, working in sections
✨ Micro-plop with a microfiber towel or cotton T-shirt
✨ (Optional) Glaze on one more layer of styling foam for an extra strong cast
✨ Diffuse upside down for maximum volume

This season of life looks different, and I’m learning that taking care of myself doesn’t have to happen on anyone else’s timeline. Sometimes, spending 30 minutes on something that makes you feel like you again is exactly what you need.

I’d love to hear from you! 💛
How long after having your baby did you finally have the time—or energy—to do something for yourself again? And what did your postpartum hair care routine look like?

Feeling good during pregnancy and postpartum is such a personal journey, but these are a few of the things that have helped me feel more like me—grounded, confident, and positive during this incredibly precious season. 🤍

Of course, take everything with a grain of salt. Keep what resonates, and leave what doesn’t. Every pregnancy, postpartum recovery, motherhood journey, and baby is different.

But don’t underestimate the power of continuing to feel good about yourself during this time. It isn’t selfish—it’s essential. A mom who feels good, feels confident, and feels supported has a deeper well to draw from for herself, her baby, and her family. ✨

Let’s talk post partum hair 🥰

If pregnancy , birth or the early newborn phase (or all three 🙃) kicked the crap out of you — then you gotta get real about what your priorities are! For me, it was making it into the shower *MoSt* mornings to wash my body, keep my hair HEALTHY with weekly shampoos and regular hair masks /clarifying, and feeling cute in a messy bun by using a round brush with heat protection if I’m going to be outside of my home. That’s it !! And when sleep exceeds 2 hrs per night I will definitely build on this 😅

Really looking forward to when I have a bit more energy to dedicate to my hair again - but would never wish away these days with my tiny little boy 💙💙

My favourite clarifier - Malibu C | Sustainable & Plant-Based Hair Care hardwater wellness
Fave hair mask - amika soulfood
Leave in conditioner - Schwarzkopf Professional Canada bonacure moisture mist

Shampoo /conditioner - L'ANZA moi moi moisture s/c

Welllllll… I’ve been keeping a secret. 🤫

Maybe you’ve noticed I’ve been a little quieter than usual over the last 9 months. 👀 Maybe you’re one of our wonderful salon clients who’s been sharing in our excitement and patiently waiting for photos. 🥰🐣

After a challenging pregnancy and birth, my husband and I welcomed our beautiful son into the world three weeks early. He weighed just 5 lbs 1 oz, and despite being such a tiny little man, he arrived healthy and absolutely perfect. 💙

I feel so incredibly blessed to be surrounded by such amazing support.

To my wonderful husband—thank you for holding our little boy in those first precious hours when Mama wasn’t able to, and for loving and caring for both of us so selflessly every single day since. Watching you become a dad has been one of the greatest joys of my life.

To our grandmas, thank you for the endless loads of laundry, homemade meals, sleepless nights, and, of course, all the cuddles with our little guy. To our grandpas, thank you for your constant love and support. And to my brother and sister-in-law, thank you for filling our freezer with meals when our little surprise arrived before I had a chance to build my own freezer stash!

I can’t forget to give a big thank you to Razan Plouffe | Ottawa Photographer for Romantics for my incredible maternity photos. You captured such a special season of our lives and made me feel so elegant, beautiful, and confident.

To all of our wonderful clients—thank you for your kindness, patience, and understanding if your appointment was affected by a last-minute cancellation or schedule change. My pregnancy took an unexpected turn during the third trimester, and your compassion meant more than you’ll ever know.

And finally…

Louie Mark. 💙

My beautiful son, you are my whole world. I already love you more than words could ever express, and I can’t wait to watch you grow into the person you’re meant to become. xo

Inverted curly cut ✨

04/06/2026

If you’re hair is FINE, SILKY, and has a curl pattern that is easily stretched / weighed down —-
A lot of conventional “curly hair” advice and products MAY NOT BE FOR YOU!!

Most products tagged with the word CURLY are targeting medium - coarse hair with a resilient curl that has a tendency to be dry and frizzy. If that DOES NOT describe your spirals —- then you might be better off NOT choosing curl product 🤯 Choosing products targeted to wavy hair, or even certain ‘straight hair’ products (especially anything that uses terms like ‘lightweight’ or ‘for fine hair’) might FINALLY get you the results you have been craving!!☺️

The texture (coarse vs silky) and strand thickness is often as important (Or even more important!) than curl pattern when choosing products.

Do you have silky, fine wavy or curly hair ?

This GORGEOUS returning client wanted to keep her length—but feel completely different ✨

So we reshaped her cut with strategic layering and focused on one goal: MAX VOLUME 🔊🔊 for her natural wavy hair.

Here’s the thing—once you understand the foundational “rules” of wavy/curly hair… that’s when you learn how (and when) to break them 😉

If you’ve ever sat in my chair, you’ve probably heard me say: applying styling products to soaking wet hair is the go-to. It helps with even distribution and keeps frizz under control—and for most clients, it’s still my main recommendation.

BUT… it’s not wrong to apply products to damp or even dry hair—especially if you love the results you’re getting 👀

When to apply products to soaking wet hair:
➰ For even product distribution
➰ For maximum frizz control

For this look, I applied a design foam to soaking wet hair—but here’s where we broke the “rules”…

At about 50% dry, I scrunched in a second foam to build texture, lift, and volume during diffusing 🔥

This technique is also AMAZING for refreshing wavy hair.

When to apply products to damp hair:
➰ When you’re okay with a little frizz
➰ When you want MAXIMUM VOLUME 🔊
➰ When you want a stronger cast + more hold

The best results always come from understanding your hair—and then making the rules work for you ✨

What “rules” have you broken for your wavy hair?! 👇

Diffusing for Defined Curls
✨ Before & After: Curl Transformation by ✨

Want bouncy, defined curls that last all day?

✨Start by applying your curl products to soaking wet hair to lock in moisture, then ➡️
✨ Use a diffuser to gently dry your curls instead of air-drying. Hair is at its most fragile when it’s wet. Because of this, air-dried waves and curls have a tendency to get frizzy faster and be less defined than hair that is diffused with effective diffusing technique!

*Try hover diffusing first to create a strong cast before pixie diffusing your hair for maximum definition. This technique enhances curl formation, reduces frizz, and still allows you to encourage curl and natural volume during the diffusing process!🍃💁‍♀️*

🔹 Pro Tip: Don’t skip the diffuser! It helps define your curls and prevents them from getting flat.
