You’ve probably seen ceramides mentioned on moisturizer labels and in skincare posts. But what are they actually doing for your skin? 💜

So what made these peels different?

After sharing why we believe in making deposits before withdrawals, we wanted to show you what made us comfortable adding professional peels to Skin Care by Shawna.

We’re introducing ClearChoice PRO NeuroGenics Peels - BarrierSync, Clariplex, and BioFade.

What interested us about these peels is that they aren't simply about removing more from the surface of the skin.

We are introducing professional peels at Skin Care by Shawna.

If you've followed us for a while, you might be a little surprised by that.

Our approach has always been to protect and support the skin barrier first, so we've been cautious about treatments that repeatedly strip or aggressively exfoliate the skin.

This summer, during some training with René, one of my skincare mentors, she shared an analogy that really stayed with me:

✨ WE MAKE DEPOSITS BEFORE WE MAKE WITHDRAWALS. ✨

It’s a simple way of describing something I’ve believed for a long time - we need to support the skin before we ask more of it.

Think of your skin like a bank account.

Appropriate home care, hydration, skin-supportive lipids, daily sun protection, and barrier-supportive treatments are deposits.

Exfoliation is a withdrawal.

That doesn't mean we never make a withdrawal. It means the skin needs to have something in reserve first.

💧 We prepare the skin.
✨ We correct progressively.
🌿 We replenish and support it afterward.

Because correction doesn't have to be aggressive.

Next, I’ll share what made these peels different and why they felt like the right fit for Skin Care by Shawna. 💜

Fall can be a great time for more corrective skin work.

But does that mean everyone should start peeling?

No.

Before we consider exfoliation, we look at barrier function, hydration, sensitivity, current home care, recent sun exposure, and what we're trying to accomplish.

Sometimes the next step is correction.

Sometimes the skin needs more support first.

Not every facial needs every device.

LED, microcurrent, ultrasonic, high frequency… We have several modalities available during our treatments.

But just because we have them available doesn’t mean we use them all or that every client needs them.

When we are planning a facial, the question isn’t “What can I add?”

It’s:

“What will support this skin today?”

Your skin can change from one appointment to the next. It may be more dehydrated, reactive, congested, or simply need a little more support than it did at your last visit.

That’s why we prefer to customize the treatment rather than follow the exact same steps every time.

Sometimes a modality can be a valuable part of the treatment. Other times, less is exactly what the skin needs.

More steps and more technology don't automatically make a better facial.

The right treatment is the one that makes sense for your skin that day. 💜
