Color correction using a color remover 🩶

This client came in with an extensive hair history. She had previous bleached ends which are also compromised from frequent heat tool use. She decided to dye her hair black a couple months ago, and contrary to belief sometimes salon permanent black dye is WAY more stubborn than a quick 1 session box dye (I don’t condone or approve of either so I’m not saying the box dye is a better option 🤣)

She then quickly changed her mind and decided she wanted to go back lighter so she went to a salon and they decided a full bleachout was the way to go (fair choice I would do the same) however not many people and even hairstylists know about oxidative hair color remover. This is different than most colour removers on the market which is technically a weaker version of bleach meant for semi-permanent colours that stain the cuticle.

A color remover is the safest option because the technology behind it is to shrink the color pigment molecules smaller so you can rinse/shampoo out those pigments without altering your hair chemically in any way. Bleach damages your bonds and won’t do anything for those pigments that are permanently in your hair! It may lift some of the artificial pigments out but it’s meant to lift your natural melanin pigment out.

As you can see, from her previous bleachout after the color remover processed, she had 2 inches of bright blonde at her roots because a toner was used there which comes out easier vs the previous black dye that was struggling to be removed.

Anywho, after one round only + a quick bleach wash to bump the ends just a bit, we managed to get her to a level 7/8 blonde with lots of orange staining! Fortunately with the right toner, we neutralized all the brass and were able to keep her as light as possible 🤍

I did go in with a darker root melt for the 2 inches of virgin growth that was previously bleached to a level 8/9 to match the ends 🫶

She will now be focusing on fully nursing her hair back to health but at least with a color she loves 💗

We couldn’t get rid of all the brassy bands in her hair last time or lift her safely so I told her if she can maintain a strict hair care routine and nurse her hair back to optimal health, we can bump the ends just a bit more at her next session instead of doing just a toner.

Butterscotch blonde 🤍💛

Beige blonde is always the go to for my client! The silver ash tones are bit much for her but we don’t want any warmth or brass at all so we keep things nice and bright with a beige toned blonde 🫶

We did a partial to break up those grown out roots at the top and I threw in a few foils underneath to hold her over until her next full touch up.

Also added 1 row of extensions for a bit of undetectable volume! We normally do 2 rows when she wants to feel more glam or going off on a trip but 1 is easier to maintain on a daily basis for her routine at home.

Extensions don’t always have to be extremely long or thick and in your face. Good extensions will be undetectable 😉 and extensions are not always 4 figure appointments!

No Bleach Brunette is the way to go guys! From a mushroom brown dimensional balayage ➡️ no bleach solid deep copper 🤎🧡

All done using color in her new virgin growth + toner to darken and match her ends.

Half the clients I’ve done the last 10 days 😅

Client 1: 150g 24” 2 row sew-in wefts (custom coloured/cut) + partial. Loveeeee me a fresh set of extensions!!! 😍

Client 2: Modern Balayage on mostly virgin hair except a few inches of black dyed previously balayaged ends. Absolutely floored by these results, her ends lifted beautifully and we managed to get her to blonde in one session healthily 🤍

Client 3: Dimensional Balayage on virgin hair 🤎

Client 4: 2 row weft move-up + partial. Love seeing my clients hair heal and grow from previous breakage (not by me) 💕

Client 5: A little more than my typical partial but not a full dimensional balayage touch up + 1 row for volume 🤍

Client 6: 100g of tape-ins. 100g is VERY hard to spread around evenly to blend and make work especially when adding length with extensions but we made it work ❤️‍🔥

Client 7: Modern Balayage touch up 🤍 can you believe her hair was last done 2 years ago and still looks so gorg! Not a hint of yellow on her ends 🤍

Client 8: Partial + tone dark + one row for volume 🤎

Client 9: Dimensional Balayage on previously black dyed hair 🩶 her ends lifted 1-2 levels darker but we still managed to get her to a bronde 💛

Breakdown of my last reel’s transformation 🤍

Yes, this is a colour correction and not just a root touch up!

Many things needed to be addressed here that you may be unaware of to an untrained eye 🫣

1. Harsh line of demarcation caused by foils that bled onto the hair in between! That is why there’s a super solid line right where her virgin roots and blonde meets!

2. Blotchy lowlights/highlights caused by using chunkier weaves and not having a plan with each foil!

3. Her ends had previous lowlights, and I see this way too often but some stylists won’t pick out the lowlights separately to lighten them and will instead bleach the entire ends together (light and dark pieces)

Well, when you do that, your lighter pieces are going to be damaged and/or even BREAK off before those darker pieces can even be light enough to match the already blonde pieces. Which is exactly what happened here, my client ended up having to cut off 6+ inches at her last appointment elsewhere because her ends broke off and the pieces that did remain were completely darker and brassier compared to the rest of her hair 😣

Managed to fix her up to something a little more blended/even and hopefully this will last her more than 3 months and she won’t feel the need to have to come back for a touch up! 🥰
