Unfortunately I do not know what this variety is called but I know it is a type of RAUTI (Ti leaves). In olden times even today, my ancestors would use tea leaves in many different ways, in means for survival from storms and loud thunder. It was during these times that they survived from the land and not use manufacturing tools as it did not exist until colonization and arrival of Christianity.

RAUTI was one of many items that were used to decorate or build homes, clothing to wear everyday, cover up food or prepare for underground ovens, making or braiding head pieces, fishing nets and many more. They used their creatives skills by knowledge, experience and being taught by their forefathers 😊

The great thing about flowers is that there are a variety of the same level by color, smell and it’s features.

This flower is called KAUTE. In English it means hibiscus. It is one of the most common flowers you will see in many Pacific Islands. In the Cook Islands 🇨🇰 when placing a flower on your right means that you are single, placing it on the left means that you are taken or married. Symbolically because of the wedding ring would be placed on the left side as well.

A very common used flower which I am proud to share is called TIARE MAORI (Single Gardenia). Tiare Maori can be difficult to plant if you do not follow the proper steps of nurturing and caring for it. Tiare Maori can be sewn into head pieces or neck eis and can last longer compared to other flowers.

⚠️ For women, do not pick the Tiare Maori when you are in your period
⚠️Be cautious as there may be wasp nest hiding to sting you
⚠️Pick the flower when its petals are closed so usually around 1pm so that it will last longer
⚠️Natural Composting is always the best so avoid using chemical products as it may harm the plant
⚠️When placing the tiare maori in a plastic bag, DO NOT‼️ shake or swing your plastic bag as you’re brushing the flower. This usually occurs when kids are being asked to pick flowers

Native to South America, yellow allamanda is a climbing, vine-like shrub with striking yellow flowers. It was introduced to Queensland as an ornamental plant and is now common in gardens.

Escaped plants, dispersed seeds, and dumping of garden waste have spread yellow allamanda into bushland and along roadsides in Queensland. Yellow allamanda can be invasive and displace native species.

Description
Vine-like shrub climbing to 10m.
Stems are smooth, red, bleed milky sap when cut.
Leaves are glossy, dark green, leathery, lance-shaped, 8-15cm long, 4-5cm wide, arranged in whorls (spirals) of 3-4 up stem.
Flowers are bright yellow, trumpet-shaped, 6-10cm across, with 5 overlapping petals, in clusters at ends of stems.
Fruit is seed capsule, round, with soft spines 4cm across.
Seeds are tan, flat, slightly winged.

These are LONG BEANS or some people refer it as SNAKE BEANS. They are perfect for stir fries, salads and stew. I would not recommend growing beans next to yo@store because it attracts insects and surely it eats up the vegetable. So you do not want that.

If you’re wanting to make your home look more beautiful, I highly recommend lillies as a source of decoration. This flower is called RED LILY. Lillies grow in different types of color such as pink, yellow, orange and RED.
It does not last long, once it blooms. It slowly dies away so that it can regrow into another flower. Do not sow onto flower eis as it would become MAE (meaning it will die immediately)

Add colour and texture to your garden with this decorative, evergreen climber. The Allamanda Jamaican Sunset produces glossy green foliage and showy, apricot, trumpet shaped flowers in summer. It is an ideal garden shrub, screen, or cover for fences and walls. Choose a warm, sunny position, in moist, well drained soil that is protected from frost.

KEY INFO
Growth Width — 3m
Growth Height — 3m
Frost Sensitive
Flower Colour — Orange, Pink
Foliage Colour — Green
Light Requirements — Full sun, Part Shade
Soil Requirements — Well drained soil

CARE ADVICE
More Information
Cultivate soil before planting. Dig hole twice the width of the container. Remove plant from container and place into hole so that the soil level is the same as the surrounding ground. Fill hole firmly and water in well even if the soil is moist. Mulch well to conserve soil moisture and suppress weeds.

Keep soil moist for this plant.

After flowering, prune using gloves, as the sap is a skin and eye irritant.

While I was picking single and double gardenia, I noticed another flower that caught my eye and that is TIPANI a.k.a FRANGIPANI. Back in the days when Tiare Maori and Tiare Teina wasn’t fruitful and blossoming, my ancestors would sow tipani into ei katus (Head piece) and ei kaku (Neck piece)

“We begin with one of the best the Cook Islands has to offer – the beautiful and fragrant Tipani. This wonderful flower is a fantastic example of flora you can expect to see during a visit to the islands. The most common variant produces a white flower with five petals, each of which is touched with a bright shade of yellow as vibrant as the sun. Tipani can also be found with pink petals as well.”

Pumpkin is a variety of squash that people often think of as a traditional Halloween decoration or a Thanksgiving pie filling. However, the flesh of the pumpkin plant provides a range of health benefits outside of popular festivities.

Pumpkin is a plump, nutritious orange vegetable, and a highly nutrient dense food. It is low in calories but rich in vitamins and minerals, all of which are also in its seeds, leaves, and juices.

There are many ways to incorporate pumpkin into desserts, soups, salads, preserves, and even as a substitute for butter.

Beta carotene is a powerful antioxidant that gives orange vegetables and fruits their vibrant color. The body converts any ingested beta carotene into vitamin A.

Consuming foods with high volumes of beta carotene may have the following benefits:

-Reducing the risk of developing certain types of cancer
-Offering protection against asthma and heart disease
-Decreasing the risk of age-related macular degeneration
