Honorable Agho Oliver Bamenju member of Parliament for Tubah Bafut Constituency Cameroon’s number one Parliamentarian fronting the fight against Climate change through community led Mitigation and adaptation actions, has on Tuesday August 25th 2026 at Mezam Divisional Delegation of Agriculture, North West donated and financially empowered tappers of his Constituency.
This to him is a sustainable Humanitarian outing and call to action to rescue nature and preserve the cultural heritage and values of his people.
Tapping, palm wine, raffia, wetlands is a practice, a sector, a business, a product and an environment component which contributes greatly to enrich culture and the biodiversity components of the society or environment.
Which is why the sector must not be undermined and disregarded reasons why the Honorable Member of Parliament went beyond party lines to promote and donate to this sector which forms part of the life wire of a grass fielder.
As a child, the Honorable Member of Parliament recounted that tapping activity by his parents helped pay his fees.
Mindful of the need to meet increasing demand for raffia palm in an ever growing University environment, mindful of the drying off of many if not all wetlands in and around the Constituency,.
Mindful of the possible extinction of raffia and raffia Bush, mindful of the role these plants play in the Conservation of nature and the reanimation of the Ecology.
Mindful of tapping economic gains, Honorable Agho Oliver in the heart of increasing flood actions in the North West Region took upon himself to donate to Tappers and encourage their activities while educating them to act friendly to the source of their daily bread as they conserve nature.
He seized that particular opportunity to condemn Outright actions of land reclamation in the two Sub-Divisions which has led to the drying off or elimination of many wetlands which use to contribute a lot to enrich the biodiversity components of the environment around the area.
A landscape scenario or green space which do not only add to the beauty of the environment but beef up the forest situation and provided provisional shelter to the environment while meeting the established needs and goals of the UN Ramsar convention.
This action by the Honorable Member of Parliament for Tubah Bafut Constituency, it must be noted and commended for adding force to a resilient Media campaign launched in the Region and nationally by Land Media Actors of Cameroon Climate Journalism Network (CCJN) since 2023 to enhance effective reporting on wetland conservation and to stop outright harvest of Raffia palms for fear of extinction. Not leaving out abusive land reclamation practices in the Region and Cameroon.
Since then the sector and practitioners have known how to uphold some values and principles to conserve while exercising in their tapping business.

Bamenda Adheres and Respond to Call to Combat Urban and Road Highways Waste Pollution by The Ideal Planet, Cameroon Climate Journalism Network (CCJN) and Mezam Taxi Drivers Union.
Taxi Drivers, Bike riders, road users and Bamenda public on Friday 21st of August 2026 gave in to the call of The Ideal Planet and Cameroon Climate Journalism Network (CCJN) on the collective need to combat Urban, and road Highways Waste Pollution.
This attitude was demonstrated by the way they welcomed the whole idea and officials carrying out the “Clean Ride” Campaign at major and key Junctions in Bamenda.
Urban and road Highways Waste pollution and disorder of late in the city of Bamenda Cameroon, have suddenly become a common call for concern.
Which is why The Ideal Planet and Cameroon Climate Journalism Network (CCJN) in synergy took upon themselves to launch the collective drive campaign to combat Urban and road Highways Waste pollution.
An initiative which intends to culture road users habit on waste disposal while in a taxi, a vehicle or using the urban space.
The excesses of rampant waste disposal in cars and along the road is the motive for this call for action.
Hygiene and sanitation, another great preoccupation to guarantee health safety even while in a public transport vehicle.
Coming back to the event and campaign proper in Bamenda major road Junctions of Hospital Roud about, City Chemist, Mobile, Foncha’s Junction, it entailed open talks, public discuss, the distribution of flyers and the pasting of stickers on taxis, public transport cars and motorcycles on business activities around these areas.
Petit business operators around these major road Junctions were equally educated on why ground nut peelings and papers should be properly disposed of after usage to always permit these major Junctions areas and vehicles clean for the collective welfare of road users.
Social Welfare which demands hygiene and sanitation, cleanliness to combat waste pollution in our environment and nature protection.
The campaign this reporter must emphasize, was launched on this blessed Friday in Bamenda and actors intend to carry it out in all others Divisions, Sub-Divisions, Villages and Regions to make the campaign a national call for action.

This is as a result of Climate Change and excessive rainfall this August 2026.
A rain situation Cameroon have never witnessed before, similar to what happened in the grand North in July-October 2024 when the Logone and Chari River overflowed it’s bank and displaced a lot of Northerners, destroy properties and lives.
The past two weeks weather forecast and rain reports cautioned about exponential rain fall calling on citizens to watch out in the Littoral, South West and North West Region.
Unfortunately these calls fell on deaf ears of the denizens settled in flood risk and disaster zones in the South West and North West Region because of Poverty.
The damage caused so far as we report these fierce and heart touching moments of what flood victims have experienced and are presently going through in Limbe and Bamenda cannot be measured or evaluated as help strip in from the State, NGO and individual.
The cause effects of the flood action directly point back at the Cameroon government for being lenient on call for action to displace people around flood zones and disaster risk area.
Leniency on the part of government is also seen in the direction of enforcing decisions prohibiting excessive land reclamation which is responsible for the obstruction of several urban run off tracks and drainage process.
Tolerance to a much extend is at the center of the rain flood theatre we have witnessed in Limbe and still continue to witness in Douala and Bamenda.
Outright and reckless, haphazard building in the said urban towns and space with the compliance of city Council officials is grossly responsible for what flood victims are going through.
Poor urban planning with less consideration of future risk zone settlement and swamps, are also responsible for the various land slides in town.
75% of the amount of torrential rains that have fallen of late have not evaporated and the quantity that has soaked the soil have exceeded containment level which is why the steep walls and slopes are sliding and causing havoc down stream.
The excessive flood situation and damages caused down Bamenda town is also as a result of rampant building activities that have taken place of late up Station hills covering much outer space, reclaiming wetlands and even encroaching on run off tracks which is what is responsible for the huge amount of run off coming from up station hills to meet a Bamenda Urban space where there is serious road works going on obstructing major passages, gullies and culverts.
Based on probability, if the rains continue at this frequency, the North West Administration should start thinking of displacing people living in flood zones and disaster risk areas.
Bamenda I Council and City Council officials should start thinking of containing and treating all run off from up station and redistributed as portable water.
Another better possibility is creating an artificial lake where all the run offs from up station hill of Bamenda will empty herself and subsequently serve as an Ecotourism destination.
Mulang, Old Town, Ntarikon, food market, as we report have been inundated by floods and many left homeless properties destroyed. Time of great reckoning is now in the NoSo, affair a suivre as Nature shows her ugly face through climate change….

After two months of intense work, capacity building and youth Empowerment with Tubah Council, this year’s 2026 holiday makers or recruits have been send home in pomp and fanfare at the Tubah Council conference hall by the Lord Mayor Tanjong Martin on Friday the 14th of August.
Where gathered were the visibly elated youths of Tubah of school going age who were recruited as support staff to help Tubah Council in her daily communal activities.
This routine holiday yearly exercise according to Tubah Council and her Mayor is first for career building, youth financial Empowerment and community development.
That is getting the youths involved and trained on how to participate in community development.
This year’s batch of Tubah Council holiday workers exceptionally we’re not only assigned to clean the Municipality and gather plastics thrown around their respective communities, but we’re also empowered with Climate Smart solution Action abilities to fight plastic pollution.
This part of the holiday job training exercise was carried out by TAGDev 2.0 Project coordinators under the University of Bamenda dub Transforming African Agricultural Universities to meaningfully contribute to Africa’s growth and development a 10 year Program running from 2023-2033 backed by Master Card Foundation and RUFORUM.
TAGDev 2.0 under the University of Bamenda educated and taught holiday makers smart Climate solution abilities to replicate at home to enhance the fight against plastic pollution.
Away from the speeches and activities that marked the day and the reason d’etre of the occasion, Tanjong Martin Mayor Tubah Council was decorated with the grand title of Mayor of the decade for his ceaseless fight against Waste Pollution and his resilient campaigns on hygiene, Sanitation and Waste management in Cameroon by the Watchdog Tribune Media Group.
Speaking to the press on the occasion, Mayor Tanjong Martin, called on the TAGDev 2.0 smart solution ambassadors under the University of Bamenda to replicate skills and knowledge gathered in their respective communities. That they should make good use of the huge financial package given to them and that they should be of good character and shining examples in their respective communities.

CCJN Partners With NW MINJEC, ICFESW to Empower Youths on Civic Right, Rescue Mission, Career Building, Climate Study and Nature Conservation at Social Reintegration Camp Bamenda.
✓Drills over 50 youths carefully selected from all strata of life including the indigenous community.
The all inclusive, intensive Regional reintegration youth camp for four days, which ran from the 9th to the 12th of August 2026 and played host at the Bamenda ultra modern REAMORCE Center empowered selected participants with Civic rights, moral rights, rescue skills, defense tactics, innovation skills, great leadership abilities on community development, Nation Building, peace Building, the fight against Climate change and local governance.
The Regional reintegration youth camp had as general objectives this summer holiday to educate, empower and groom exemplary youth leaders in the crisis hit Region of Anglophone Cameroon who will in return replicate knowledge in their respective communities.
The all inclusive training youth camp or gathering for social reintegration, Civic right Empowerment and youth moralization convened by MINJEC partnered with (ICFESW) Islamic Charity Foundation for Education and Social Welfare, (CCJN) Cameroon Climate Journalism Network and the Bamenda Army rescue unit.
The youth led impregnation program initiative for North West youth social reintegration and moralization was placed under the theme “Youth, Peace and national reconstruction, targeting youths aged 15-35 years out of school and greatly at risk in the crisis hit Region of Anglophone Cameroon.
Cameroon Climate Journalism Network (CCJN) on the occasion dished out practical knowledge, skills and abilities on how to go about simple coordinated actions, activities and efforts to combatting climate change in their respective communities.
The climate training restitution program on the occasion articulated around general waste management, tree planting, renewable energy, Pollution, Afforestation, catchment protection, biodiversity conservation, livestock breeding, wild life conservation, agriculture, natural resource management, Ecotourism and Climate Education for Climate solution action (CSA) under (CDA) Climate Demand Action Campaign of (CCJN).
Also as part of activities to beef up the train trainers program, youth distinguished participants were given room to plant fruit trees and water friendly trees around the North West REAMORCE Center Bamenda.
This join venture initiative for the general youth Empowerment and social reintegration it must be noted, is in partial realization of (ICFESW 2026-2030) Islamic Charity Foundation for Education and Social Welfare agenda dubbed “Integrated program for education, socio economic integration and social welfare for children Youths, women and social vulnerable Families”.

Tubah Council Holds Mid-Term Evaluation Session
✓Outlines a Litany of Projects Realized and Juicy Strategic Development Plans for the Municipality.
The Mid-term evaluation session of Tubah Council played host at the Council Hall on Wednesday the 22nd day of June 2026, where Tubah Councilors gathered to take stock of Council management activities.
This routine Council evaluation session falls in line with government and Council action evaluation plan which gives room for the Mayor to present to Councilors projects level of realization and how the council should be working in anticipation, plus deliberations which needs to be voted.
Tubah Council in line with laid down Council principles held her med-term evaluation session presenting details of what Tubah Council have realized so far.
The situation according to project report presentation for 2026 stands at over a 100% mindful of insecurity.
Tubah Council which remains the leading Council in the Region and a model Council in the whole Republic have remained a pace setter in terms of project realization, local council governance and management.
Speaking at the mid-term evaluation session, Mayor Tanjong Martin observed that Council management goes with accountability, reasons why it is but necessary for the Council to take stock at mid term and render account to Councilors.
The Senior Divisional Officer Emile Moh to Councilors on the occasion, saluted their collaboration for the growth and proper management of the Council. While Calling on Councilors to remain committed and the Mayor to keep up to expectation for the transformation of Tubah into a University Eldorado.
In 2026, Tubah Council realized several key infrastructure, environmental, and social programs, including major bridge constructions (Niba Atohnui, Bafokum, Fingwang), grading farm-to-market roads, and installing solar street lights. The council also focused on hygiene at local markets, launched a long-term holiday employment program, and planted 16,000 trees to preserve water catchments.
Key projects realized and ongoing in 2026 are; Infrastructure & Roads:
-Awarded a tender for the opening and grading of 2.5 km of farm-to-market roads from Ncshie-Nchuneform to Abangoh and Ashufor.
-Construction of the Niba Atohnui reinforced concrete bridge in Bambui and the Bafokum-Agric School bridge.
-Grading of roads from New Council Junction to the food market.
Environment & Water:
The "1400 Project" planted 16,000 water-friendly trees to protect catchments in Kedjom Ketinguh, Kedjom Keku, Finge, Bambui, Bambili, and Sabga.
Social & Community Programs:
-Recruited over 100 students for the 2026 long-term holiday employment program in June.
-Awarded 1,500,000 FCFA in scholarships to 23 students from the University of Bamenda.
-Maintained the "Safety Net Project" providing targeted beneficiaries with financial stipends.
Sanitation & Public Works:
-Improved waste management and hygiene infrastructure across the Bambili Market, transit hubs, and Tubah District Hospital.

✓Harnesse Water Resources to Meet Community Needs
Bambui community came out as one on Saturday 18th July 2026 to strengthen community Action to Forster the sustainable management and the rigorous Conservation of sacred grounds cm water resource areas and Catchments of the village.
Year in year out Bambui village have taken upon herself to clean, plant and protect the major outlet of seven lakes in the North West Region, Atunui Bambui water source and Feworh all sacred grounds in the village.
Lake Oku, Nyos, Awing, Wum, Bambili et all, from facts and findings use Atunui water Catchment as their main outlets, emptying their source in River Mezam.
The routine annual village exercise, adorn the gods of the land, purifies the village while conserving and protecting water resources.
Atunui water source Known as the head of the gods, forms part of the cultural heritage and intrinsic values of the Bambui man as it is believed that once the gods of Atunui are happy the God of heaven shower protection and blessing over the land and it’s people.
Answering to the call of nature and collective community development action, Bambui inhabitants came out in their mass and planted water friendly trees in the area while building a natural fence to prohibit intrusion.
The Fon Angafor III on inspection tour at the site, observed that, Bambui is more than the word committed to enhance community development actions most especially when it concerns proper management and the conservation of water resources.
He added that Atunui is not only the play ground of the authority and power of the Bambui man, it is a tourist destination that has contributed enomously to the water economy for centuries.
