Let’s be real, nobody wants to sit through an hour of painful silence on a first date. 😬

While you can’t control chemistry, you can set yourself up for a much smoother time. Here is my checklist for minimizing the awkward factor before you even meet up:

✅ The Pre-Screen Call: A 10-minute FaceTime or phone call before the date is crucial. You can gauge their vibe instantly. If it’s awkward on the phone, it’ll be 10x worse in person.

✅ Ditch the "Dinner Interview": Sitting face-to-face across a white tablecloth is high pressure. Choose an activity instead—mini golf, an arcade bar, walking through a street market. It gives you something external to focus on if the conversation lulls.

✅ Set a Time Limit: For a first meeting, keep it low stakes. "Let's grab a coffee at 2 pm, I have to run an errand by 3:30." If it’s going great, you can extend it. If it’s painful, you have a built-in exit strategy.

✅ Prep 3 "Backup" Questions: Have three interesting questions in your back pocket that aren’t "So, what do you do for work?" Think: "What’s the best trip you’ve ever taken?" or "What’s the weirdest thing in your Netflix queue right now?"
