You can be sleeping well, feeling healthy and still think your skin looks tired.
After 40, changes in skin renewal, hydration, collagen, elastin and facial structure can all affect how light reflects from the face. That can create dullness, fine lines and shadows that make you look more tired than you actually feel.
Hormonal changes during perimenopause and menopause can also make these changes feel more noticeable or surprisingly sudden.
The answer is not always more sleep, a stronger moisturiser or simply adding volume.
A proper assessment helps identify whether the main issue is hydration, skin barrier function, texture, collagen loss, pigmentation or changes beneath the skin.
The aim should never be to make you look 25 again.
It should be to help your skin look healthier, fresher and more like how you feel on the inside.

A lot happens before a patient walks through the clinic door.
I review notes, prepare the room, check the equipment and make sure I have everything needed for that particular appointment.
But preparation is not only about laying out products and cleaning surfaces.
It also means considering whether anything has changed since the appointment was booked and being prepared to alter the treatment plan, or not treat at all, if that is the safest and most appropriate decision.
You may never notice most of this when you visit.
That is how it should be.
Good treatment starts well before the treatment itself.
The MHRA has strengthened its warning about a rare but potentially serious complication following botulinum toxin treatment: iatrogenic botulism.
Symptoms can appear several days after treatment and, in some cases, up to four weeks later.
Seek immediate medical help if you develop:
• Difficulty breathing
• Difficulty swallowing
• Slurred speech
• Severe eyelid drooping
• Unusual or widespread muscle weakness
These symptoms are not something to monitor at home or report by social media message. Call 999 or attend A&E.
This update should not cause unnecessary panic, but patients deserve honest information about risks, however rare. Botulinum toxin is a prescription-only medicine, so always check who is prescribing it, whether your practitioner is appropriately qualified and whether an authorised UK product is being used.
Rare does not mean irrelevant. Safe treatment begins with proper assessment, responsible prescribing and informed consent.

What do amino acid skin treatments actually do, and how are they different from dermal fillers?
In the latest blog, I explain the science in straightforward terms, including how amino acids and hyaluronic acid support hydration, skin structure and overall skin quality.
The article also covers what treatment may help with, what to expect, and where its limitations sit.

Looksmaxxing is everywhere at the moment.
At one end, it can mean better skincare, exercise, sleep, grooming and taking more care with how you present yourself.
At the other, it can become endless comparison, appearance scoring, repeated treatments, risky DIY practices and the belief that every normal feature needs correcting.
That is where self-improvement can quietly become self-surveillance.
There is nothing wrong with wanting to look fresher, feel more confident or address something that genuinely bothers you. But your face should not become a permanent project with no finish line.
Responsible aesthetics should be about realistic goals, proportionate treatment and knowing when not to treat.
So what do you think?
Harmless trend, useful motivation or a slippery slope?

I’m pleased to share that Oscare Wellness is now partnered with PLIM, giving you the option to spread the cost of selected treatments through flexible payment plans.
This is not about encouraging anyone to have treatment they do not need or cannot comfortably afford. It is simply another way to make a carefully planned treatment journey more manageable, particularly when a course of treatment is recommended rather than a single appointment.
You will still receive the same honest consultation, realistic advice and no-pressure approach. Treatment will only be recommended when it is clinically appropriate and genuinely right for you.
PLIM applications are completed directly with the provider and are subject to approval, eligibility and their terms and conditions. Finance is a financial commitment, so please consider affordability carefully before applying.
For more information, send me a message or ask about PLIM during your consultation.

There is so much talk about polynucleotides and amino acid treatments, but what actually are they?
They are often grouped together under the very broad label of skin boosters, but they are not the same treatment and they do not work in exactly the same way.
Polynucleotides are used to support the skin’s repair environment, fibroblast activity and overall tissue quality.
Amino acid treatments provide some of the building blocks involved in collagen and elastin production, often alongside low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid for hydration and biorestoration.
A simple way to think about it:
Polynucleotides support the environment.
Amino acids support the materials.
Neither is automatically better. The right option depends on your skin, the area being treated and what we are actually trying to improve.
Sometimes one is more appropriate. Sometimes they may sit alongside each other as part of a wider skin plan.
The aim is never to choose the most fashionable injectable.
It is to choose the treatment your skin actually needs.

I’m genuinely delighted to share that I’ve been shortlisted as a finalist in the 2026 London Diamond Awards, hosted by the Safety in Beauty Organisation.
I have been selected in the Customer Service category, which means a huge amount to me.
For me, customer service in aesthetics is not just about being friendly or replying quickly. It is about making people feel listened to, safe, informed and never pressured. It is about honest consultations, realistic expectations, clear aftercare and knowing when the right thing to do is to say no.
The message from Safety in Beauty explained that nominations often come from the people whose lives and experiences we have positively influenced, including clients, patients, colleagues, friends and family.
That makes this feel very special.
To anyone who has supported Oscare Wellness, trusted me with your care, left a review, recommended me, or simply cheered me on, thank you.
Being recognised for safe, compassionate and client-centred care is something I am incredibly proud of.

When your skin barrier is struggling, the answer is not always another product.
Sometimes the most helpful thing you can do is stop repeatedly challenging the skin.
That may mean temporarily pausing exfoliating acids, scrubs, retinoids, drying acne treatments, harsh cleansers and anything that is causing burning, stinging or persistent redness.
It may also mean stopping the habit of stacking multiple active ingredients in the same routine.
Even useful skincare can become poorly timed when the skin is already irritated.
This does not mean these ingredients are always harmful, or that you need to stop them forever. It means the skin may need a period of reduced irritation, gentle cleansing, suitable moisturising and daily sun protection before active products are gradually reintroduced.
Prescribed treatments should be reviewed with the clinician managing them rather than stopped indefinitely without advice.
Persistent itching, cracking, swelling, burning or ongoing redness may also point to something more than a damaged barrier, such as eczema, rosacea or contact dermatitis.
Stop guessing.
Simplify the routine.
Then assess what the skin actually needs.

Improving the skin barrier is not usually about adding more products.
Quite often, the first step is removing the things that are repeatedly stressing the skin.
That may mean simplifying the routine, reducing exfoliation, pausing irritating active ingredients, cleansing more gently and using a moisturiser that supports hydration and the skin’s natural lipid barrier.
It also means protecting the skin while it recovers.
Daily SPF, avoiding unnecessary heat, not picking or scratching, and postponing treatments that deliberately disrupt the skin can all make a real difference.
Once the skin feels calm, comfortable and stable, active skincare can be reintroduced gradually.
Persistent redness, burning, itching, cracking or repeated flare-ups may need a proper clinical assessment rather than another “barrier repair” product.
Reduce the stress.
Support the skin.
Protect it while it recovers.
Then consider more advanced treatment from a stronger starting point.
