Firstly, a huge thank you to for being such a wonderful and willing model for this Kati Basti Treatment!

This is just demonstrating a little of what to expect with more specialised body treatments in Ayurveda! πŸƒπŸŒΎ

What's pictured here is a 'Kati Basti' - meaning lower back treatment.

Basti means 'container' or 'that which holds' and also acts as a kind of 'bladder' to hold a liquid substance. This container allows for an isolated treatment to be carried out on a specific location on the body by holding a large amount of warm oil, be it on the lower back, between shoulder blades, knee joints, heart centre and even on the eyes! See - latest post.

Basti treatments are perfect for when there is a large amount of discomfort at a specific location, they can also be points where we may hold stress and tension.

This treatment pictured is indicated for any general complaints of the lower back, sciatic nerve pain, slipped discs, insomnia, restlessness, stress related weaknesses of the lumbar and also arthritic changes.

Lastly KatiBasti is a treatment which helps to pacify and regulate Vata dosha!

Captured this on the last day of summerβ˜€οΈ!

You can already see a change of the seasons is well underway πŸ‚πŸ And as we issue in this new autumnal season we also make changes in out lifestyle accordingly, whether it's through;

- The foods we eat: Making dietary changes to suit the season, focusing on warmth and spices like cinnamon, cloves and ginger, root vegetables and also starting to focus on having more warm drinks rather than cooling which we had in the summer.

- Lifestyle: What we wear also changes because of the colder weather & where we choose to socialise and spend time changes due to the environment also.

So we tend to make these changes quite naturally and this in itself is Ayurveda. As Ayurveda can be seen throughout the change of seasons, we see Autumn as a predominantly Vata time of the year 🌬

This means exchange from Summer (Pitta related) to Vata can bring forth Change for many people, in addition the qualities of being cold, light and dry also increase in the external environment... so all these changes we implement actually help to pacify these qualities which may increase within us.

Back to what I love, which is Ayurveda!🌱

The room is prepared this morning for a combination of Consultations, Treatments and refreshing my own knowledge. Having been a while since my last post, In between I decided to create short simple Insta-stories about Ayurvedic terms, they are now pinned to my home page - if you liked these or would like more information please let me know!

In the consultation we covered certain aspects of lifestyle such as:
- Sleeping pattern.
- Eating habits and dietary description.
- Case history, ailments, illnesses etc...
- Theme of family, childhood and adolescent phase of life. / Note that we even speak about the mothers pregnancy and how that phase of life was.
- Current presenting complaints, symptoms, relieving factors etc...

- Ayurvedic Pulse Diagnosis.
- Ayurvedic Tongue Diagnosis.

These diagnostic tools really help to reveal a lot of what is happening on the inside, not just the physical state of the body but also the mind and they are key in an Ayurvedic Consultation.

Based on all this information gathered a therapy plan is then formed, consisting of the following 5 approaches -
*Diet
*Lifestyle
*Yoga
*Massages / Therapies
*And lastly the use of herbs

Treatment Day!

Therapy room is all prepared this morning for my wonderful client!

Starting with a brief consultation determining basic body type (also known as Prakriti), then looking into today's current body type (known as Vikriti) and then assessing the state of the digestive fireπŸ”₯ - All this can be found out through Pulse and Tongue Diagnosis / Two very important and extremely useful tools always included within an Ayurvedic Treatment or consultation.

Based on current diagnosis I used an oil infused with strengthening, calming and nerve soothing herbs, all which help to reduce stress and tension within the body and mind - additionally also helps to correct and improve sleep patterns!

All oils used are based on traditional authentic Ayurveda! -

First treatment after a break away and back into the swing of things - the room is all ready for this mornings client!

A 90 minute treatment which will be tailored for the individual, consisting of a full back massage then followed by a Basti Treatment.

Basti literally means 'that which holds' or 'bladder therefore it is a container or vessel.

Basti treatments are a method of localised application of oil which is then held within a dough well - preparation seen in picture number 2. The oil which is held is kept warm and helps to nourish the deeper tissues such as muscle, bone and nerve.

Basti treatments can be placed at various parts of the body and can be useful for upper and lower back pain, sciatica, hypertension, emotional changes such as stress and anxiety, also insomnia, slipped or herniated discs and arthrtic conditions.

It is said that Ayurveda starts in the kitchen, and for certain that was the case for me this morning as I was preparing the dough for the client πŸ˜ŠπŸŒ±πŸ™ŒπŸ»

I remember beig told "You will never get bored as an Ayurvedic Therapist as there as such a variety of treatments, oils, marma points and variety of strokes to use" πŸ™ŒπŸ»πŸ™

Treatment Room :

Room prepared for Pristh Abhyanga (Back Massage) then followed by Mukh Abhyanga (Face Massage)πŸ’†β€β™€οΈ.

After the treatments, I then recommeneded a few yoga postions to the client which would be helpful in relieving tension / tightness within the spine and shoulder region.

What may not be known is that in Ayurveda there is a high importance placed upon 'anti-aging' - literally starting from birth. When having an Ayurvedic treatment, all techniques be it strokes, marma points or oils that are used will all contribute toward anti-aging and have a deeply restoring effect.

Back Massage πŸ™Œ - also known as Pristh Abhyanga. This treatment is useful for anyone who might experience tension, muscular pain and stress held within the lower, middle, upper back and shoulder region. Included in this trestment is also the arms and hands.

Face Massage πŸ’†β€β™€οΈ - also known as Mukh Abhyanga. A classic Ayurvedic treatment which helps to remove tension and toxins from the facial muscles, also improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. This treatment goes beyond a simple massage, as it is said that in Ayurveda - we experience life through the 5 senses and are gifted with only 1 set of sensory functions - therefore facial massages are actually perfect for this as it actually also helps to nourish these systems.

Treatment room all prepared for my first client in the clinic! πŸƒπŸ™ŒπŸ»πŸ”₯

Today will be a 90 minute Abhyanga (Full Body Massage) treatment, a brief pulse diagnosis to establish which dosha (energetic) may be dominant and require pacifying, using specifc herbal oils for the individual, working on certain marma points and using rose water eyepads to help remove excess heat from the neck and head region.

All the above steps ensure that Ayurvedic massages are truly personalised to suit each individual πŸ™

Throwback Thursday to last week, just after I finished a 7 day Ayurvedic Liver Cleanse 🌱...

Here are a few images which I took throughout the cleanse, sharing a couple of steps which are implemented in an Ayurvedic cleanse.

Top left hand corner - Some of the herbs and teas used to support in removing excess heat from the body - all which help to support the central organs, healthy dhatu formation of Rasa(plasma) and Rakta(blood) amongst others also - all products as it doesn't get any better when it comes to authentic Ayurvedic oils, herbs, teas and more!πŸƒ

Right hand corner - For 1 week my routine was to have a fruit smoothie in the morning, slightly varying throughout the week, also included some Ayurvedic herbs to help encourage and strengthen AgniπŸ”₯ yet also resting the digestive tract - this cleanse is going back to simplicity.

Middle - A herbal oil consisting of selective cooling herbs to help reduce excess Pitta. I used this everyday for self massage treatments, focusing on certain points on the body which relate to Pitta Dosha.

Right hand corner - Myself after the cleanse, no filters used. Feeling fresh and reaping the benefits πŸ™ŒπŸ». Defintely something I will do on a yearly base.

Lastly, the main picture which I posted on before - Making Ginger & Lemon chutney which I incorporated into the cleanse.

Making Ginger Lemon ChutneyπŸŒ±πŸ‹

Recipe from Dr - .. check out the link in their bio on how to prepare this simple yet effective and super tasty chutney! Which you can use so easily, currently I'm consuming it off the spoon and adding it to herbal teas to give them a bit of a boost! 😊

~Contain all 6 tastes ~
Helps to cleanse Ama / also known as toxins, from the digestive tract.

Ginger is known for it's warming qualities which in turn help to neutralise heavy, damp and congestive conditions, however it also is useful for grounding Vata dosha and can provide relief from excess heat / inflammation when used in it's fresh form...
