Darker skin tones & pigmentation

Can darker skin tones have microneedling? Absolutely. 🤎

But good microneedling isn’t just about choosing a needle depth and getting started — understanding the skin you’re treating is SO important.

Higher Fitzpatrick skin types can be more susceptible to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) following inflammation or trauma to the skin.

This is why, for some clients, I’ll recommend a period of skin preparation using tyrosinase-inhibiting ingredients before we begin treatment.

The aim? To help regulate excess melanin production and minimise the risk of unwanted pigmentation following treatment.

Depending on the individual skin, pigmentation history and products being used, this preparation may begin several weeks before the first session.

Darker skin doesn’t need to be avoided when it comes to microneedling.

It needs to be understood, assessed and prepared appropriately. 🪡🤍
