Quote from Gemma Stevens after winning Burghley…..” I’m a blubbering wreck, it’s only taken me 25 years” !!!!!!

Proof that good things come to those who wait and also a message not to give up on our dreams ..

I’m quite often the worst person for self doubt, imposter syndrome and backing myself but I’m working hard to turn this mindset around, focus, keep my eye on the prize and enjoy the journey!

A very interesting article especially as I’ve seen horses recently presenting some of the symptoms mentioned here.
As we can see from the diagram the cecum is a large comma shaped sac that acts as a microbial fermentation tank at the beginning of the hind gut.
It houses billions of microbes that break down complex plant fibres from grass and hay that the horses upper digestive tract cannot digest .
Lush grass contains high levels of non structural carbohydrates e.g; simple sugars and fructans.
When too much sugar enters the horses hind gut too quickly it bypasses early digestion and then rapidly ferments in the cecum. This creates an excess of lactic acid and large pockets of gas .
This can lead to secondary muscular and postural effects :

You may notice right side tension
Irritation of the bloating in the cecum on the right flank triggers tension in the corresponding nerves and muscles of the right back , right hindquarters .
This reflex can then cause stiffness through the ride side, a resistance to bend or discomfort when lifting the right hind leg .

Hi, rocky felt really good today, his trot was really springy and he wasn't dragging his toe. Thank you so much for seeing him so quickly and making him feel better 🥰❤️ # # …….

Getting messages like this from owners is just one of the highlights of my job…. Another is visibly seeing the response in front of you as you’re working on a horse, feeling the changes under your hands and building those connections.

2 more cpds completed .. ongoing learning with Wolds Equine Sports Massage Approved Courses not only allows me to keep my equine education growing , it ensures that I can pass the benefits to each individual horse … this months cpd has been all about exercise prescription between massage treatments…how to tailor that to the individual horse dependant on age, workload, fitness, discipline and any veterinary diagnosis ..
