Tattoo Removal Myth

"If I have treatments more often, my tattoo will disappear quicker."

It might seem logical that having laser treatments more frequently would remove a tattoo faster, but that's not how the process works.

The laser breaks the tattoo ink into tiny particles. It is your body's immune system that gradually removes those particles over the following weeks.

Having another treatment before your body has had enough time to clear the fragmented ink doesn't usually speed up the process.

For this reason, I recommend allowing around 12 weeks between tattoo removal treatments. This gives your body the opportunity to do what it does naturally before the next session.

Every tattoo and every person is different, but successful tattoo removal isn't about having treatments as often as possible—it's about treating at the right time.

This is one of the most common misconceptions about laser tattoo removal.

The laser doesn't burn or cut the tattoo out of your skin.

Instead, it delivers extremely short pulses of light energy that are absorbed by the tattoo ink. This breaks the ink into much smaller particles.

Over the following weeks, your body's immune system gradually removes these tiny ink fragments naturally.

That's why tattoo removal is a process rather than an instant result. Treatments are usually spaced around 12 weeks apart to give your body time to clear the broken-down ink before the next session.

Every tattoo responds differently depending on factors such as:
Ink colour
Tattoo age
Ink density
Tattoo location
Your individual immune response

Did you know... laser hair removal only works on hairs that contain pigment?
Laser/IPL targets the melanin (pigment) inside the hair. That means white, grey and most very fair hairs don't absorb enough laser energy for treatment to be effective.

Hair grows in different cycles, and laser is only effective when the hair is in its active growth phase.

I'd always rather explain how treatments really work than make unrealistic promises.

Understanding the science helps you make informed decisions—and that's exactly how I believe aesthetic treatments should be approached.

One of the biggest misconceptions I hear in clinic...

Many people think they have to "put up with" skin blemishes because they're just part of getting older.

The truth is, many common concerns such as skin tags, thread veins, cherry angiomas, milia and certain other benign skin blemishes can often be treated safely and effectively following a consultation.

Every concern is different, which is why I always assess each client individually before recommending treatment. If I don't think something is suitable, I'll tell you honestly.

My aim has never been to persuade people to have treatment. It's simply to help people understand their options.

"Did you know these are completely harmless... but can still be incredibly frustrating?"
Seb K can vary in size from a few millimeters to several centimeters. They often have a rough, “stuck-on” appearance and can be waxy or scaly to touch. They range in color from light brown to almost black. Some may be flat initially but can become raised over time. While usually painless, seb K can itch, become inflamed, or catch on clothing, sometimes causing minor bleeding.
The exact cause of seb K is unknown. Risk factors include age, genetic predisposition, and possibly sun exposure.

Sometimes I'll recommend monitoring it.

Sometimes I'll ask for GP approval.

Sometimes I'll suggest Map My Mole first.

My priority is always your safety before treatment.

"I've had this for years! I wish I'd known it could be treated?"

That's one of the most common things I hear from new clients.

Whether it's a skin tag that catches on your clothing, a cherry angioma that's always bothered you, facial thread veins, milia, or another common skin blemish, many people simply don't realise that treatment may be possible.

You don't need to know the medical name for it.

That's my job.

My role is to assess your concern honestly, explain your options, and let you know whether treatment is suitable for you. If I don't believe I can achieve a good result, I'll always tell you.

MYTH vs FACT

"If I dye my white hair darker, laser hair removal will work."

Unfortunately, it won't.

Laser hair removal works by targeting melanin, the natural pigment inside the hair follicle.

Dark hairs contain high levels of a pigment called eumelanin, which absorbs the laser energy effectively. This allows the follicle to be heated and damaged, helping to reduce future hair growth.

White and grey hairs contain little or no melanin, while red hairs contain a different type of pigment that doesn't absorb laser energy as effectively. Blonde hairs also usually contain too little pigment for reliable results.

Dyeing the hair darker only changes the colour of the hair above the skin. It doesn't change the pigment inside the follicle, so it won't make laser treatment effective.

One promise I always make my clients is honest advice.

If I don't believe a treatment is likely to give you good results, I'll always tell you. I'd rather explain why something isn't suitable than recommend a treatment that isn't in your best interests.
