Rhinoplasty requires careful planning, realistic expectations, and time.

Before surgery, 3D imaging may be used to help understand the patient’s concerns and discuss the type of change that may be achievable. These images are a planning tool rather than a guarantee of the final result.

If a patient remains concerned after surgery, the first step is usually to allow the nose sufficient time to heal. Swelling can persist for many months, and the final result may take a year or longer to become fully apparent.

Where there is a medical concern or a significant post-operative issue, this would be assessed sooner. For smaller aesthetic concerns, it is generally important to wait until healing has stabilised before deciding whether any further treatment is appropriate.

Depending on the individual case, options may include a minor revision procedure, a small adjustment under local anaesthetic, or, in selected cases, the careful use of filler to improve a minor irregularity. More substantial concerns require a detailed reassessment and further discussion.

Long-term follow-up is an important part of the rhinoplasty process. Patients are reviewed at key stages, including approximately one week, six weeks, three months, six months and one year after surgery, with additional appointments where required.

The aim is to monitor healing carefully, answer questions, and ensure any concerns are properly assessed rather than making decisions before the nose has had time to settle.

A closer look at VASER liposuction to the back and flanks, combined with a bra line back lift and extended brachioplasty.

VASER allows for targeted fat removal and detailed contouring, helping refine the shape of the back and flanks as part of a carefully planned body-contouring procedure.

Combined surgery can be considered where both excess volume and loose skin need to be addressed, with the surgical plan tailored to the individual patient.

We understand that arriving for an appointment can feel significant, particularly if you are attending for a surgical consultation or treatment. The environment patients walk into matters.

Our waiting rooms at Northwood Hospital are designed to feel calm, comfortable and welcoming, offering a quieter space to settle before your appointment.

From the seating and lighting to the overall atmosphere, the aim is to create an environment that feels considered and reassuring. For many patients, the experience begins well before they enter the consultation room, and it is important to us that this first part of the journey feels as comfortable as possible.

Whether you are visiting for rhinoplasty, facial surgery, or another procedure, we want every part of the experience to feel professional, supportive and well organised from the moment you arrive.

Rhinoplasty | Before & After

This patient presented with concerns regarding a bulbous nasal tip, a dorsal hump, nostril asymmetry, and the overall size of the nose in relation to the face.

Her preference was for a smaller, straighter, and more defined nasal shape. Although the nose appeared relatively straight on examination, the underlying anatomy demonstrated a high radix, a dorsal hump, prominent lower lateral tip cartilages, and asymmetry in the cartilages surrounding the nostrils.

In rhinoplasty, visible concerns such as tip width or nostril asymmetry must be assessed alongside the underlying cartilage, nasal support, bridge height, and wider facial proportions.

The proposed procedure was planned to address the dorsal profile, refine the nasal tip, and improve balance while respecting the patient’s existing anatomy. It is also important to recognise that natural asymmetries may not be eliminated entirely, particularly where differences arise from the underlying cartilage framework.

Breathing was reported to be good, with no evidence of internal or external nasal valve collapse during examination. Functional assessment remains an important part of rhinoplasty planning, even when the patient’s primary concerns are related to appearance.

The consultation also included a detailed discussion regarding the procedure, expected scars, recovery, limitations, and potential risks. Choosing not to proceed with surgery is always an available option.

Every rhinoplasty requires an individual assessment and a treatment plan based on the patient’s anatomy, concerns, and expectations.

Every nose has its own unique characteristics, which is why rhinoplasty should always be tailored to the individual. The goal isn’t to create a “perfect” nose—it’s to achieve balance, improve proportions and complement your natural features.

A natural result doesn’t mean doing less – it means doing what’s right for the individual.

This patient underwent an open structural rhinoplasty to reduce the prominent bridge of her nose while maintaining a balanced profile that suits her face.

The structural approach allows the nose to be reshaped while maintaining strong support, helping to achieve a result that looks natural and functions well long term.

If you’re considering rhinoplasty and would like to discuss your options, we’d be happy to help.

Good aftercare does not begin once the operation is over. It begins during the planning stage, when the surgical approach has been agreed and the patient is prepared for what to expect.

Before surgery, patients undergo a pre-assessment with an experienced nurse. This includes reviewing their medical history, discussing any medication that may need to be stopped, explaining the hospital process and helping them feel more familiar with the environment before the day of surgery.

Careful preparation helps reduce uncertainty and allows the clinical team to plan appropriately for each patient.

During the hospital stay, patients are supported by nurses who are familiar with the specific needs of rhinoplasty patients. Established protocols guide care during the operation, immediately afterwards and throughout the early recovery period.

The first post-operative review usually takes place approximately one week later. At this appointment, the splint and any external stitches are removed, the nose is assessed and patients have the opportunity to discuss any concerns or questions with both the nursing team and Mr Wilson.

Rhinoplasty recovery takes time, and regular follow-up is an important part of monitoring healing, providing reassurance and supporting the patient throughout the process.

A new approach to laser skin resurfacing has arrived in Bristol.

UltraClear® uses advanced cold ablative laser technology to precisely resurface the skin while limiting the amount of heat delivered to the surrounding tissue.

Depending on the individual treatment plan, UltraClear® may be considered for concerns including:

• Fine lines and wrinkles
• Sun damage and pigmentation
• Uneven skin tone and texture
• Acne scars and surgical scars
• Dullness and early skin laxity

Treatment intensity can be adjusted, ranging from lighter resurfacing with less downtime to deeper treatments for more established concerns.

Every treatment begins with a detailed consultation to assess your skin, medical history and goals. Mr Paul Wilson will explain the potential benefits, expected recovery, aftercare and whether laser resurfacing is appropriate for you.

UltraClear® treatments are now available at Paul Wilson Aesthetics, Northwood Hospital, Bristol.

Loose skin is one of the most common concerns we see following pregnancy or significant weight loss. Unfortunately, once the skin has lost its elasticity, diet and exercise alone cannot remove it. An abdominoplasty is designed to remove excess skin and create a smoother, firmer abdominal contour, helping patients feel more comfortable and confident.

If you’d like to find out whether abdominoplasty is the right option for you, we’d be happy to discuss your goals during a consultation.
