The comfrey plants are ready for their first harvest. The warming balm contains spring picked leaves and autumn dug roots. A wonder herb for muscle recovery, with the addition of other stimulating garden herbs.

One of my best sales days ever (!), so many great connections with people already interested in herbs and those new to them. What can sometimes feel quite nichey felt so so well received, and that fills my wee heart. Silver Birch 💧 Lady of the Woods 💧 Betula pendula

When I think of spring, I think of birch. It brings new beginnings, renewal, life giving, sap rising energy. I recently bought a copper alembic still and have been playing with different spring herbs. I felt a strong pull towards the silver birch, and the whole process has cracked my head wide open.

Birch has been here since the end of the last ice age and is known as a pioneer species. Ancient tree medicine, valued and used by people for a very long time. From twig to leaf to bark to sap, humans have been in relationship with the birch for thousands of years. Medicinally, it is astringent, toning, anti-inflammatory, a superior pain-reliever. 

It purges, cleanses, renews. This much is true in the distillation. It's powerful, camphorous, otherworldly, strong. I can't quite put it into words, I have never experienced birch in this sense before. 

Distilling truly is an art, an all-consuming process from harvest to the resultant wholly water. Bearing witness to a new form of working with plants has been an absolute joy, and I'm enjoying the creativity and the many paths of this herbal life. Forever a student to the natural world.

Spring transition blog up on the notes section on the website - some thoughts I had on my way home today. Smelling barbecue in the air, hearing tunes down the street and seeing people in t- shirts jumping into summer mode. Waittttt, it's still early spring!

Today marks the Persian New Year and the vernal equinox. Growing up in a Baháʼí household, this day has always been a celebration, long before I knew what an equinox was. Big feasts, reflection, and a celebration of spring ~ we made it through another winter.

Eat plants, drink plants, wear plants, and slather plants on your skin. Tap into the rising energy and dance into the light.

Wishing you an abundant spring however you celebrate. Sowing seeds, foraging a spring bouquet of flowers, breaking fast and feasting with family and friends. Happy spring! ❤️
