Nobody talks enough about the siblings in SEND families.

As a SEND mum myself, I spend a lot of time fighting battles people never see.

School meetings, EHCP reviews, phone calls, the worrying, the planning and then doing it all again tomorrow.

But while everyone's focused on the child with additional needs, there's often another child quietly alongside them.

The sibling who understands when plans change at the last minute.

The sibling who sits through appointments.

The sibling who learns patience, empathy and resilience long before most adults ever do.

My daughter's big brother Logan is one of those children.

He's had to navigate things that many of his friends will never really understand, yet he's always there with kindness, love and support

Being a SEND mum has changed the way I see the world and the women who sit in my chair.

When a client tells me she's knackered, I get it.

When she says she's been meaning to book her hair for months but life has got in the bloody way, I get it.

When she wants hair that's easy to live with because she's already spinning a hundred plates at once, I get it.

The thing is, as hairdressers, we're often trusted with far more than hair.

We hear about the school meetings, the appointments, the endless emails, the battles no one else sees and those little wins that feel bloody massive when they finally happen.

Being a SEND mum myself means I know that sometimes you're so busy looking after everyone else that you can't remember the last time you properly worried about yourself.
