✨ Permanent Makeup FAQ – Your Most Asked Questions Answered ✨
I know choosing Permanent Makeup is a big decision, so I always encourage my clients to ask as many questions as they need. Here are some of the most common questions I get asked at Pamper by Paula’s…
❓ Does PMU hurt? Most clients are pleasantly surprised by how comfortable the treatment is. I use a high-quality numbing cream to keep discomfort to a minimum, and many clients say it feels like light scratching or vibration.
❓ How long does Permanent Makeup last? This varies depending on the treatment, your skin type, lifestyle, and aftercare. On average: • Brows: 1–3 years • Lip Blush: 2–3 years • Lashline Enhancement: 2–5 years
❓ Will my brows/lips look too dark at first? Yes, they will appear darker immediately after treatment, but this is completely normal. The colour will soften by around 30–50% during the healing process, leaving a much more natural result.
❓ Is Permanent Makeup really permanent? PMU is semi-permanent, meaning it will gradually fade over time. This allows us to refresh and adjust the colour and shape as your preferences or facial features change.
❓ What if I don’t like the shape? Before any treatment begins, I carefully map and design the shape with you. Nothing is tattooed until you are completely happy and have approved the design.
❓ How long is the appointment? A full PMU appointment usually takes around 2.5–3.5 hours, depending on the treatment. This includes consultation, mapping, colour selection, numbing, and the procedure itself.
❓ Do I need a top-up? Yes, a perfecting top-up is usually recommended 6–12 weeks after your initial treatment. This helps reinforce the pigment and perfect the final result.
❓ Can anyone have PMU? Most people can, but some medical conditions, medications, or skin conditions may mean treatment is not suitable. This is why I carry out a thorough consultation before every appointment.

Frances came to me for her very first set of brows around a year ago, and today she returned for her Colour Boost appointment to refresh and redefine them.
Her brows had faded beautifully — no unwanted tones, just a softer version of her original colour. At today’s appointment, I carefully refreshed each hairstroke and added a few more where needed, bringing her brows back to life while keeping them natural and flattering.
Permanent makeup is not a one-size-fits-all treatment. Every skin type holds pigment differently, and factors such as oily skin can cause brows to fade more quickly. That’s why choosing the correct pigment and creating a bespoke brow design for each client is so important.
