This is a 3-stage process. First is the obvious- we listen to a song or a piece of music, and then...we receive it.
The beauty of a piece of music often resonates with personal emotions or memories. That is the magic of it. It is bridging the gap between the musician and the listener.✨
It isn’t a one-sided connection, you receive its beauty through your lenses. 💓.
Research found that music has a profound impact on the brain, it engages multiple areas simultaneously. Sensitivity to the beauty of music can be highly transformative and therapeutic.
After you spend time listening or taking that break from work to refresh your mind, all undeniably important...but ...what is next?

Emotional Expressions Mirror Our Souls. 🔮💖
Even when we aren't consciously aware of it, our emotional states influence our facial appearance.
The tiny micro-expressions in facial movements can convey our true feelings, often more accurately than words. Subconsciously it is our preferred way of communicating with others. Over time, these notions create permanent features of our faces. It is our emotional bodily code.
A positive outlook on life often translates into a more relaxed and radiant facial appearance. People who frequently experience joy and contentment tend to have a natural glow resulting from relaxed facial muscles and feeling peaceful. This positivity can also foster social connections reinforcing happiness.😊
On the flip side, chronic stress and negative emotions can take a toll on our faces. Stress hormones like cortisol can break down collagen and elastin, leading to premature ageing and wrinkles. Persistent worry or anger creates deep lines and a tense appearance.😣
Many people are not even aware of which emotions they are wearing on their faces before it becomes their look. Recognising our emotional states is crucial not only because it shapes our facial appearance but also for our mental health.

Facial rejuvenation can be understood in a variety of ways. I certainly do not mean a range of cosmetic procedures by this, although this has become a synonym for improving facial appearance and has become increasingly popular in recent years.
So what do psychologists say about this growing trend? Here’s a deep dive into the psychological perspectives on facial rejuvenation.
It is not uncommon for psychologists to be a little sceptical about pursuing facial rejuvenation goals. In his book “A Compassionate Mind” Professor of Clinical Psychology, Paul Gilbert wrote that wanting to be the most beautiful can lead to destructive behaviour. "Indeed that is the very nature of the problem, that in seeking the best, and the most beautiful, we become greedy" (...)and "we do not become greedy by seeking the ugly".
After all, what does it mean to have a “pretty face” or even feel the most beautiful? The warning exists also in the Sleeping Beauty tale in the cruel Queen example. It is that simple moral - do not ask the mirror that question:” Who is the fairest one of all” or you risk self-destruction. 🥀
Another renowned clinical psychologist, meditation teacher, and speaker Dr Rick Hanson said that "there is enough beauty" in any given moment postulating the importance of mindfulness and moderation and perhaps abandoning the pursuit of beauty altogether. 🌸

So pursuing a better appearance could be a “ good thing” when it is linked to self-perception and self-esteem.
Another positive aspect of facial rejuvenation is the power to bridge the gap between how we feel internally and how we look externally. This applies especially to ageing individuals as it allows us to maintain a consistent identity that aligns with their self-perception.

The other aspect we need to be conscious of when it comes to facial rejuvenation goals is societal pressure. The media constantly bombards us with images of youth and beauty and might unknowingly set unrealistic standards many aspire to meet. The problem is that the portrayal of idealized portraits of beauty can create pressure to conform and lead individuals to seek facial rejuvenation procedures in either unhealthy ways or when it is not needed.
Another caveat is social comparisons. According to some theories, people evaluate themselves based on comparisons with others. When we are surrounded by peers who appear youthful and vibrant, we may fall into the trap of wanting to keep up with these standards and overlook the fact of natural ageing and other individual differences. Many choose cosmetic procedures following this competitive spirit omnipresent in social and professional settings.🤔

Let's list more positives of facial rejuvenation pursuits. 🌸👱‍♀️

Research suggests that positive changes in appearance often lead to improved mood, increased happiness, life satisfaction and overall emotional well-being. For some, improved appearance can alleviate anxiety related to ageing appearance. Knowing that we can enhance our looks can reduce the constant worry.
What are the potential psychological risks?
The first risk arises with setting unrealistic expectations. Any unrealistic goal ultimately leads to disappointment and dissatisfaction. If individuals expect facial rejuvenation to solve broader life issues or completely transform their lives, they may be setting themselves up for inevitable failure and great emotional distress, which often comes with subsequent and high costs.
What are the potential psychological risks?
The first risk arises with setting unrealistic expectations. Any unrealistic goal ultimately leads to disappointment and dissatisfaction. If individuals expect facial rejuvenation to solve broader life issues or completely transform their lives, they may be setting themselves up for inevitable failure and great emotional distress, which often comes with subsequent and high costs.

Speaking about addictions- relying heavily on external changes to feel good about oneself can undermine the development of self-worth. Emotional dependence on cosmetic procedures can hinder personal growth and self-acceptance.
Psychologists advocate for a healthy balance between the desire for aesthetic improvements and the acceptance of natural ageing. This balance is crucial for long-term mental health. In fact the most effective for achieving the best results for facial appearance.
Finally, psychologists recommend counselling as well as mental health assessment to identify and address potentially underlying issues such as BDD or depression to avoid falling into traps and creating a vicious cycle and downward spiral of depression or depressive symptoms.

Counselling can also help maintain a healthy balance between aesthetic desires and acceptance of natural ageing.
I think holistic and natural facial rejuvenation are the closest to psychological recommendations. The insights from psychology can help ensure that the journey towards a rejuvenated appearance is both fulfilling and emotionally enriching.

How We Experience Beauty: The Philosophers Φ 🥀

Beauty has been debated across various disciplines, including philosophy and psychology. Thinkers from these fields have explored the nuances of what encapsulates the feeling of beauty."🌹
Plato saw beauty as an ideal form that exists beyond the physical world. According to him, true beauty is eternal and unchanging, and it can only be contemplated intellectually that elevates the soul, connecting the individual to “higher realities.”
Aristotle associated beauty with harmony, proportion, and order. For Aristotle, beauty is found in symmetry and balance. His perspective highlights the importance of aesthetic qualities, suggesting that our perception of beauty is deeply rooted in our senses and cognition.👁️
Immanuel Kant one of the modern philosophers believes that beauty is a subjective experience. In his work "Critique of Judgment," Kant argued that the experience of beauty is subjective but also universal. It arises from the harmonious interplay between our sensory experience and rationality.
According to Kant, when we judge something as beautiful, we do not hold any personal interest but rather derive pleasure from it. This allows us to share beauty universally, despite its subjective nature.
Arthur Schopenhauer influenced by Kant, viewed beauty as a way to transcend the suffering and existence of everyday life. He suggests that beauty allows individuals to momentarily escape the relentless existential struggles. Contemplation of beauty offers a glimpse into a state of ‘pure existence’.🤍

Beauty is an all-encompassing phenomenon beyond what we see in the mirror. We need another perspective...
Are there emotional aspects of beauty? How does your inner heart come to life?💖
Here are a few suggestions:
- Emotional expression: Journaling: Write down your thoughts and feelings. It can be a therapeutic way to process emotions. ✍️📃
- Engage in activities like listening to music, especially songs close to your heart. Sing or dance if you enjoy it. 🎵❤️ You can also engage in painting.
- Embrace Your Uniqueness -recall moments when you were most kind, courageous, free, beautiful, and powerful. Was there anyone with you? Savour these memories. Notice how they make you feel? ❤️
-Practice mindfulness and meditate to stay present, stay centred and grounded. This helps to gain a feeling of inner peace and create more spaciousness around your heart. Breathe it. ❤️😇
-Practice Gratitude: Reflect on what you're grateful for. Feel the positive energy from the smallest gifts life gave you.
-Cultivate the mindset of Emotional Resilience: View challenges as opportunities and take on the challenges life brings you. Resilience builds strength and confidence, which are key components of beauty. 💝
-Share your feelings with a trusted person, seek support, and lean on a friend, family member or therapist. Be your own best friend first.👥
-Practice Zen- lose yourself in simple moments, take joy in some simple activity: watch a beautiful sunset, have a warm cup of tea, or a relaxing bath. (Hint- it is not about being efficient.)🍵 🌅
-Allow yourself to be playful and spontaneous. 🤸‍♀️
-Surround yourself with positive, supportive people who uplift and inspire you. Engage in deep and meaningful conversations that allow you to connect on a deeper level. 💕
