Teaching nails through fun lessons
3 things nail techs LOVE that I think are completely overrated. 👀💅
Some of these are considered signs of a successful nail business… but I couldn't disagree more. 😂
Watch the video and tell me which one you disagree with most!

Ask me a general knowledge question and my brain goes blank. 🤣
And that's actually one of the reasons I'm building nail education differently. 👀
Why is there so much hate and drama between nail techs? I absolutely hate bullies. Especially the uneducated ones. If you are going to try to put another nail tech down, at least make sure you have ground to stand on.
Don’t embarrass yourself by arguing about what’s “illegal” because you are just admitting you don’t know the difference between the cuticle and the eponychium..
Does the law say you are prohibited from cutting cuticle? No. It says something else.
The cuticle and the living tissue are not the same thing.
The dermis and epidermis are not the same thing. Actually read the law before using it as your defence just because you heard somebody else say it.
And if there’s a technique you don’t understand yet? Save your money, invest in proper education and learn the anatomy before offering it.
You don’t have to offer every technique. But you also don’t need to discredit the nail techs who chose to learn it.
so..
Is cutting cuticles illegal? No.
Is purposely digging deep into the eponychium illegal? In some places yes but that’s also common sense, it doesn’t need to be written in the law for us to teach that you shouldn’t do it.
what I did to my teeth and why I chose this option 🥰
PART 2 | “Day in the life of a nail tech - 10 clients in 10 hours”
After years of seeing “get faster so you can fit more clients into your day”, I started questioning why more clients was always the goal.
If I wanted to make an extra £100, I could either squeeze another two appointments into an already exhausting day…
Or I could figure out how to make that extra £100 from the clients I was already seeing.
I chose the second option.
And I was terrified. 😂
Because raising your prices sounds great until your brain starts telling you that everyone will leave, nobody will think you’re worth it, and you’ve just destroyed your own business.
But it turns out it wasn't that scary as I made it in my head and eventually I got to the point where FOUR clients could bring in what previously took me a full day of clients to make.
I absolutely believe nail techs should work on their speed. Ijust don’t believe the reward for getting faster should automatically be more work.
Part 3: Why I actually think getting faster can be a reason to charge MORE. 👀
PART 1 | “Day in the life of a nail tech - 10 clients in 10 hours”
We’ve all seen those videos. 😂
Do they make you think:
- Why am I not that fast?
- Should I be doing more clients?
- Am I doing something wrong?
I’ve done those ridiculously long days, and from my perspective, there is nothing glamorous about them. You just end up in physical pain and emotionally drained.
So don’t be jealous. Don’t wish you had days like these.
On social media, they may look fun and like something to aspire to, but the reality can be very different.
I realised I didn’t want to become faster just so I could squeeze more clients into my day.
I wanted to figure out how to make more money from fewer clients.
Because nowadays, being rich isn’t just about how much money you have in your bank account. It’s also about having the time and energy to actually enjoy it.
The solution for me was terrifying: I had to massively increase my prices.
Part 2: I genuinely thought I was going to lose all my clients. 👀
I've included some photos which I found. This was not even my entire kit by the end 😂 But I can't find more recent photos. It is just a lot to carry without a car.
Otherwise, if you do own a car, I recommend it, I loved being a mobile nail tech 🥰
If another nail tech is sterilising her tools, why on earth would you be in her comments telling her she doesn’t have to? 😭
You run your salon however you choose. But for me, sterilisation is an ethical standard, not just a legal one.
Don't do the bare minimum and expect to charge premium.
The law can be the minimum standard.
It doesn’t have to be your standard.
I’m curious though - what are the sterilisation requirements for nail salons where YOU live? 👇
Red Flags in Nail Clients 🚩 #2
The serial rescheduler.
The client who technically never no-shows… because she always messages first.
And somehow that made me feel like I had to keep transferring the same booking fee over and over again.
But a booking fee isn’t a subscription to my diary 😂
If I reserve Tuesday for you, then Thursday for you, then Saturday for you, I’ve now held THREE appointments while you’ve paid ONE booking fee.
And yes, emergencies happen. Of course they do. This isn’t about the client who has to reschedule once because life happened.
It’s about the client where life apparently happens before every single appointment 😭
I used to make exception after exception because I was scared that enforcing my own policies would make me lose a client.
Eventually I realised: sometimes losing the client IS the solution.
Also, maybe this is my ADHD brain talking, but cancelling plans with me after I’ve mentally prepared for them should be illegal. Work or personal. I’ve already lived the entire event in my head. What do you mean you’re not coming??? 😂
Anyway… 🚩 #3 took me even longer to spot because this one actually looks like a DREAM client at first.
