During some recent testing for a DJ I came across this damaged cable.
Did I fail the item and move on ? No, the damage was around 18” from the end of the cable so after a discussion with the duty holder I shortened the cable removing the damaged section and carried out the relevant tests.
Did i charge extra for this repair ? No, this is the sort of thing covered by my free minor repairs promise.

🔥 HOW IS THIS STILL HAPPENING IN 2026?
A massage gun left charging. An empty house. A fire.
Firefighters were called to a house fire in Marston Moreteyne after a rechargeable massage gun was left charging while nobody was home. 😱
Fortunately, the homeowner returned during the early stages of the fire and was able to extinguish it. A closed bedroom door also helped prevent the fire and smoke from spreading further.
But this should make us stop and ask some serious questions.
How many people are still leaving rechargeable devices plugged in while they’re out or asleep?
How many of us assume that because a device is modern, rechargeable and sold legally, it must be completely safe?
Are we becoming too comfortable with lithium-ion batteries being around our homes without really understanding the risks?
And perhaps most importantly:
How many more warnings will it take before we stop treating this as something that “probably won’t happen to me”?
Rechargeable devices can present a serious fire risk when batteries are damaged, faulty, poorly manufactured or incorrectly charged.
So, in 2026, perhaps it’s time we stopped seeing these incidents as isolated accidents and started asking whether we’re doing enough to prevent them.
⚠️ A few simple precautions can make a huge difference:
• Don’t charge devices while you’re asleep or away from home.
• Always use the correct charger supplied or recommended for the device.
• Charge on a hard, flat, non-flammable surface.
• Unplug the device once it’s fully charged where practical.
• Never use damaged batteries, cables or chargers.
• If a battery becomes unusually hot, swollen, damaged or starts behaving strangely, stop using it.
The question is…
In 2026, why are we still seeing homes catch fire because of something as simple as leaving a rechargeable device charging?
What do you think needs to change?

I test quite a lot of music equipment for singers, bands and DJs etc. Its not very often you get to see that equipment in use but last night we went to see a client perform.
Daniel Herrod was at The Farm Road Sports & Social Club we had a great night, if Danny is performing near you get yourself along and support a top act. It was also nice to see clubland is very much still alive and kicking.
