Wedding skin prep! A very important period before a big special day.

I had the privilege of preparing this gorgeous girls skin ready for her big day and wow did she look incredible!

What did we do:
• 5 sessions of microneedling to address some acne scarring but also to boost collagen and elasticity to give firmer plumper skin
• all of my microneedling sessions also include preparing the skin with an enzyme peel and chemical peel to address skin glow and texture
• I also like to end every session with time under the LED light with red and blue light waves to help reduce inflammation, boost collagen and also reduce any bacterial skin content reducing the risk of breakouts
• This lovely lady also trusted the process and invested in OBAGI medical grade skincare products to improve her skin between sessions. This is the absolute foundation to any treatments.

This is really important to be aware of and with the recent changes to legislation where all patients must be seen face to face before the issuing of a prescription for botulinum toxin there seems to have been an increase in the use of imported (non prescription) toxins and hence an increase in cases of potentially fatal botulism. Please be aware and ensure you know what you are receiving. Licensed prescription only toxins include brands such as Botox, Azzalure, Bocouture, Alluzience and Nuceiva. These should be received via a registered pharmacy only which are listed on the general pharmaceutical council

UKHSA & BCAM Safety Alert

The UKHSA has confirmed 38 cases of iatrogenic botulism in England (June–July 2025), linked to cosmetic botulinum toxin injections—mainly involving unlicensed products and treatments in non-clinical settings.

Key facts:

- Symptoms: drooping eyelids, blurred vision, difficulty swallowing

- 6 patients required critical care

-Most cases linked to unlicensed toxins, some from South Korea

BCAM urges:

- Use licensed products only

- Perform treatments in appropriate clinical environments

- Stay alert for symptoms and seek urgent advice if concerned

What you can expect from Ribbleway Aesthetics
• a face to face consultation where your medical history is discussed and decision made whether we can proceed
• If appropriate I will then create an electronic prescription for the botulinum toxin
• This will then be delivered from the registered pharmacy of choice in a refrigerated vehicle as the toxin I use is stored in the fridge
• You will then attend your appointment for the administration of your toxin
• A review will be completed after 2 weeks to ensure there are no complications and treatment is sufficient

You may have noticed a lot of talk out there about prescribing of prescription only medicines for cosmetic use as a result of some changes to guidance

Here’s what you need to know:
• Some medicines used in aesthetics/ cosmetic treatments involve the use of prescription only medicines. These are medicines that can only be prescribed after a face to face consultation with a patient and they are supplied on a named patient basis against that prescription thus meaning treatment cannot occur on the same day.
• The guidance has enforced that consultations must be face to face and not remote eg phone call, video call etc, this is specific to cosmetic medicines thus this is why you can still have a remote consultation via GP/111 service etc
• The only exception in which you may be able to have same day treatment is if you have a treatment by a doctor or dentist who can legally hold stocks of prescription only medicines, however, it is still good practice to give a cooling off period ie time to fully consider whether this treatment is appropriate for you.
• If you receive dermal filler treatment (which is not a prescription medicine and is classed as a medical device) and you have not seen a prescriber then you may be put at risk if you experience a complication. This is because some of the treatments for complications eg a vascular occlusion require a prescription only medicine and thus require a face to face consultation. If not carried out before the treatment this could create an unwanted delay in treatment of a complication

How can you ensure you are kept safe?
Be sure that you are receiving treatments from someone who has involved a prescriber in the process, this does not mean that a person who isn’t a prescriber isn’t safe to inject, it just means there should be a prescriber involved in the process to ensure quick treatment in the event of a complication.

And as a side note, cheaper is not always better. Your safety should always be your priority 😘😘
