I’m not in the habit of posting disturbing content on here but I do this in the hope that anyone looking at my page will know that it’s so important that any therapist you choose is accredited and listed on their professional body website at least! I always point out to my customers that I am a member of the Association of Reflexologists in the UK who list their code of conduct which we must all abide by as professionals. It’s very easy to do a Reflexology course these days online and get a certificate but they are not rigorous. My qualification involved over 100 hours of clinic and practice notes alongside proper in person training and examination. So please look at registers and choose wisely. A cheap price doesn’t always guarantee a safe outcome.

It’s and the theme is “Growing with grief.”
As a person who has lost so many loved ones in my life, especially in the last 22 years, I reasonate with this year’s theme a lot. It’s been a roller coaster of emotions and often felt completely broken. I won’t say the old cliché about time as it can be very annoying to hear if loss is raw. But I can say, it’s shaped me to who I am today and I think that’s a positive!
I really want anyone who is feeling lost and not quite sure if they are processing their loss well to know that they have a support network even if it doesn’t feel that way at the time.
Support for you could be:
✨ Talking to your friends, family and loved ones if comfortable to do so
✨ Taking grief counselling sessions - depending on circumstances, family of someone who has passed may be entitled to free sessions or call support lines through support charities like Macmillan Cancer Care. Your NHS GP may also be able to arrange sessions too.
Loss is confusing and many emotions unsurface and it’s completely normal to not know how to feel when this happens. A counsellor can help you work it all out more logically and manage the overwhelming feelings. It’s particularly important if the loss was sudden, traumatic and has lasting implications.
✨ Sport, music, art or community group work - getting out and seeing your team mates or even working with a gym PT can really help you feel part of the world again. Letting your creative expression out is also very therapeutic. Getting moving again is very difficult but once you’ve done it, it will start to be easier.
✨ Returning to work - this is often a very hard one to navigate and knowing when is the right time to go back can be tricky for both you and your line manager. Saying that, it can help many feel a sense of normality again. Read through your bereavement leave policy to see what support they can provide after you return. Some companies provide incredible support these days in the form of network groups which can reduce feelings of alienation and not being understood. It’s also a sign of a good employer!

“Harnessing the powerful role of the Lymphatics System in keeping us healthy “
It’s great to see the New Scientist writing an article on how important our lymphatic system is for our overall health and unexpectedly giving a nod to jade rolling - a tool used in my Zone Face Lift treatments incorporating lymphatic drainage massage and reflexology acupressure point techniques. I often tell my clients that I’m all about the science so I love it when that community give the complementary therapies industry a subtle nod.
In Reflexology we work on your lymphatic system by applying specific techniques to acupressure points mapped on your feet (between the toes - dorsal and plantar- and around the ankles), hands (between the fingers and wrists) and face (forehead region).
While large scientific studies still are much needed there are many smaller but significant research studies reporting a positive effect when using Reflexology to support conditions like lymphoedema and is a complementary therapy used in our hospital cancer care centres to support those post surgery with lymphoedema or as a side effect of chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy.
The UK’s Association of Reflexology website www.aor.org.uk also has an insights and research article section where more study info can be found if you’re curious!

What a fascinating post about something all humans have evolved to do.
Touch therapies like Reflexology are known to release the “feel good” hormone oxytocin that in turns helps to alleviate anxiety, stress and improve happiness.

🧠 Scientists figured out how to *double* brain waste clearance just by massaging the skin.
The discovery may be the future of Alzheimer's prevention.
Scientists have discovered a non-invasive way to enhance the brain’s natural waste-clearing system, which could open new doors for treating neurological diseases like Alzheimer’s.
Researchers at the Institute for Basic Science (IBS) demonstrated in mice that gently stimulating lymphatic vessels beneath the skin of the face and neck significantly boosts cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) flow—a critical mechanism for flushing out harmful substances from the brain. Using a specially designed mechanical stimulator, the team was able to double CSF outflow and restore drainage levels in aged mice, without drugs or surgery.
This breakthrough offers a potential new approach for safely improving brain health in aging populations.
The researchers also identified previously unknown drainage routes from the brain to superficial lymph nodes through facial lymphatics—routes that remain functional even in older animals. These findings complete the anatomical map of CSF outflow and suggest the feasibility of wearable or clinical devices to enhance brain waste clearance. While more research is needed to determine its long-term effects and application in human patients, the team is optimistic that this gentle mechanical approach could be developed into a therapeutic tool to prevent or slow neurodegenerative disease progression.
