The Ghana Institute of Clinical Genetics held an open Durbar and a free community health screening, today, 25th June, 2026 at the institute premise, this morning. This event was organized to marks this year’s world sickle cell day celebration.

In her opening address the Director of the institute, Dr. Amma Benne Akwasi-Kuma highlighted how the disease is inherited and warned the public against the stigmatization of sickle cell patients. She added that "since it’s an inherited disease" it’s not their choice, hence, the public should deter from stigmatizing sickle cell patients. She also advised patients to take medical precautions early and serious to prevent worse complications.

Dr. Oteng Alpha, also took the opportunity to engage patients and the audience with a brief yet detailed education on the sickle cell diseases. He stressed on taking the advantage of modern medical treatments available and answered some questions from the patients.

This year marks the institute’s 53rd anniversary, with huge impact on the Ghanaian healthcare industry and beyond.

On 19th June, 2026, The Royal Chapel International, Accra branch led by the head pastor, Rev. Foli, donated these items to the clinic:
2 air-conditioners
2 bed-screens
Medical drugs

This kind donation exercise was part of the Church’s social community responsibility, contributing directly to the community’s development.

The donation was received by the head of administration and matron on behalf of the institute. Both thanked the head pastor and his entire membership and may the good Lord bless them as well, for this kind gesture.
Amen
