Flat feet can contribute to lower back (Lumber region) and hip pain through a chain reaction in body alignment—what we often call the kinetic chain.
🦶🏻When the arch collapses:
-The foot overpronates (rolls inward)
-The ankle shifts inward
-The heel (calcaneus) tilts
☝🏼This already changes how weight travels upward.
Because of that inward collapse:
-The tibia (shin bone) rotates inward
-The knee may fall inward (valgus position)
-The hip internally rotates
🦵🏻Now the pelvis is no longer neutral.
-The pelvis may tilt anteriorly or become asymmetrical
-This increases lumbar lordosis (curve in lower back)
-Muscles like QL, psoas, erector spinae become overactive
-Internal rotation pulls the pelvis and
this changes how the hip sits in the socket
-Glute medius is weakened / IT band gain tension
Result for Lumber region:
-chronic tension and compression in the lumbar spine
Result for the hip:
-it becomes a “victim joint” (absorbing stress from below and above)
💙What Helps:
Foot support: orthotics or proper shoes
Strengthening: intrinsic foot muscles, glutes
Release work: massage therapy, yoga, pilates, stretching
Postural retraining: especially pelvis alignment
Acupuncture / TCM: local + channel-based treatment
