Reflexology ๐๐๐
๐ The feet are highly sensitive: Each foot contains thousands of nerve endings, making them especially responsive to touch and pressure.
๐ Reflexology focuses on the feet, hands and sometimes ears, depending on the reflexology system being used.
Reflexology has very ancient roots, but the modern practice of reflexology developed more recently ๐
๐ Ancient Egypt:
One of the earliest pieces of evidence comes from the tomb of Ankhmahor at Saqqara, dating to around 2330 BCE. Wall paintings show people working on the hands and feet, although itโs debated whether this was specifically reflexology as we know it today.
๐ Ancient China:
There are long traditions of therapeutic foot and hand pressure within Chinese medicine, and some modern reflexology theories draw connections to these practices.
๐ India:
Traditional Ayurvedic practices have also included massage and pressure work on the feet.
๐Modern reflexology:
The system most closely resembling what we practise today developed in the early 20th century in the United States. Dr William H. Fitzgerald developed Zone Therapy, and Eunice Ingham later mapped the feet and hands and developed the reflexology method that became widely known in the West.

Spiritual Symbolism of Feet in Ancient Egypt ๐น๐น๐น๐น
The ancient Egyptians held the body in great reverence. Feet were seen as the part of the body that connected a person to the earth and the physical world. Ritual washing, anointing with oils, and healing touch were important aspects of Egyptian life and spirituality ๐น๐น๐น๐น
Our feet are remarkable structures. Each foot contains 26 bones, 33 joints, and more than 100 muscles, tendons, and ligaments that support movement, balance, and posture ๐น
They carry us through life, yet they are often one of the most neglected parts of the body ๐น
Why Our Feet Are Important
๐น Foundation of the body โ The feet provide stability and support for standing, walking, and movement
๐น Balance and coordination โ Thousands of nerve endings in the feet help the brain understand where the body is in space.
๐น Posture and alignment โ The condition of the feet can influence the knees, hips, spine, and overall body mechanics.
๐น Connection to wellbeing โ Caring for the feet can encourage relaxation, comfort, and greater body awareness.
What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a complementary therapy based on the idea that specific points on the feet, hands, and ears correspond to different areas and systems of the body
๐น๐น๐น
Reflexologists apply pressure to these points using specialized techniques
๐น๐น๐น
Many people seek reflexology for:
๐น Deep relaxation
๐น Stress reduction
๐น A sense of balance and wellbeing
๐น Time for self-care and mindfulness
๐น Support alongside conventional
healthcare
