If you’re a Soft Summer like Irina, your colouring is typically low-contrast and gently cool, so the shades that tend to work best are the ones that feel slightly softened rather than overly bright or highly saturated.

Think dusty blue, soft mauve, smoky rose, muted teal, cool sage, mushroom, cocoa and soft charcoal. Even your neutrals are often more flattering when they’re a little softened…less stark black and optic white, more charcoal, taupe and cool stone.

The same principle carries through to hair and makeup: mushroom and smoky brunette, sandy or muted blonde, rose-toned blush, soft berry lips and cool taupe eyes all sit naturally within the Soft Summer palette.

Compared to Selena in the previous post, Zendaya is an example of someone who looks more cohesive in warm tones 👌🏻

In the warmer gold, everything flows more naturally..her skin looks rich and warm, her colouring feels more balanced, and the overall effect is softer & richer. In the silver, by comparison, the look feels a little icy and slightly disconnected from her natural warmth, making her appear paler.

Again, it’s not about one being “better”, it’s about which one works with you rather than against you.

Our clients will be no strangers to the silver vs gold test 😅 it’s one of the simplest ways we start to assess whether someone leans cool or warm.

Selena is a great example of someone who is more harmonious in silver (cool tones). In silver, her features look more defined, her skin appears clearer and the overall effect is sharper and more striking. Because she’s a Winter we’ve also added a pop of lip colour to really enhance her overall presence.

The gold, by comparison, feels less striking and less harmonious against her colouring.

It’s never about whether you can wear gold or silver… it’s about noticing which one makes you stand out first 🤩

COOL-TONE BLUSH EDIT

Blush should would with your overall complexion and aesthetic … which is why undertone makes a big difference.

AND….. from a colour analysis POV, choosing a blush for your skin undertone is more important than choosing a shade that matches your eye colour… yes, we know, shocker!🤯 and we’ll be sharing more about this later in the week🤓

Here are some cool and cool-neutral tones for Winters & Summers… and you’ll see there’s no peach/salmon/coral on here as these are generally more suited to warmer toned seasons.

Cool-neutral: think rose, mauve, raspberry and berry. Great for many Summers and anyone who leans slightly cool.

Cool: think blue-pink, lilac, plum, magenta and fuchsia. Especially good for Cool/True Summers and Winters.

Lastly, remember intensity matters too.. softer colouring usually needs a more muted blush, while Winters can often handle brighter, clearer shades.

If blush tends to pull peach or orange on you, try going cooler 💗

It also made me stop and think about Mabel. Just over a year & a half ago, it was an idea. Since then Lisa and I have engaged with 1,000+ clients through our consultations and masterclass events, tested ideas, changed direction more than once 🙃, made mistakes.. yet thanks to your support and encouragement we still managed to bring a whole new A-game standard to colour analysis and personal shopping in Ireland🔥so thank you, thank you, thank you 🙌🏻💫💫
