π€°π½ 2 CM TO 10 CM β WHAT DOES EACH DILATION STAGE ACTUALLY MEAN? πΆπ½
Cervical dilation means the cervix is opening during labor to make way for the baby.
πΉ 2 CM β BEGINNING TO OPEN
The cervix has started dilating. Labor may still be early, and contractions can be mild or irregular.
πΉ 4 CM β OPENING FURTHER
The cervix is more open, and contractions are often becoming stronger, longer, and more regular.
πΉ 8 CM β ALMOST FULLY OPEN
The cervix has opened significantly. Contractions are typically intense and frequent as labor progresses.
πΉ 10 CM β FULLY OPEN
The cervix is fully dilated, creating enough opening for the baby to pass through during vaginal birth. Pushing may begin when your birth team determines itβs appropriate.
πΆπ½ THINK OF IT LIKE THIS:
2 CM β starting to open
4 CM β opening more
8 CM β almost fully open
10 CM β fully open
β€οΈ Every labor is different. Dilation does not always happen at the same speed, and healthcare professionals consider other factors when assessing labor progress.
π These numbers are educational examples. Only a trained healthcare professional can assess cervical dilation accurately.
