When I finished KCSE I wanted to study mass communication. Not because someone told me to. Because of Johnson Mwakazi.

I used to sit down and watch Citizen TV news every evening. Not for the news. For him. The way he delivered. The voice. The confidence. The presence.

I wanted to be that.

I used to practice newscasting in my house. Reading imaginary scripts. Pretending I was live on air. I had my future mapped out. Get the cluster points. Join Multimedia University of Kenya. Become a broadcaster.

Then my results came.
I did not get the points.

And having Kenyan parents who know what they want, the conversation was short.
"Procurement is the best degree."

So I joined Dedan Kimathi University to study procurement.
Not mass communication.
Not broadcasting.
Procurement.

And for a while I thought that dream was dead.

But here is what life taught me.

Today I create content every single day. I have over 1.3 million followers across platforms. I speak to cameras more than most news anchors. I communicate for a living.

Without a mass communication degree.
Without Multimedia University.
Without anyone giving me a job in media.

I built my own media house. It is called my phone and my social media accounts.
And this is the lesson I want you to hear.

Stop restricting yourself because you did not take a certain program.

If you look at the highest paid people in Kenyan media today most of them did not study mass communication. They are just excellent communicators. They can hold an audience. They can speak. They can connect.

That is a skill. Not a certificate.

If you want to be in media start a TikTok account today. Create content. Practice your voice. Build an audience.

The media stations you are dreaming about will find you.

Because they do not hire certificates.
They hire people who can communicate.

And you can start proving that today.
With the phone in your hand.
