Carpal Tunnel View X-ray is a specialized radiographic projection used to visualize the carpal tunnel of the wrist, particularly the palmar (volar) aspect of the carpal bones and structures like the hook of hamate, pisiform, and trapezium.

🩻 Purpose
• Evaluate carpal tunnel syndrome
• Assess fractures of the hook of hamate or pisiform
• Detect bony abnormalities compressing the median nerve
• Evaluate for volar calcifications, ganglion cysts, or masses

📸 Technique

This is also called the Carpal Tunnel (Tangential) View or Gaynor-Hart View.

🔹 Patient Positioning:
• Patient is seated, with the arm extended.
• The forearm is supinated.
• The wrist is hyperextended (dorsiflexed about 90°).
• Fingers are pulled back, often with a band or assistant to hold them in extension.

🔹 X-ray Beam:
• Directed at a 25–30° angle toward the base of the palm (proximal to the third metacarpal).
• Central ray passes through the carpal tunnel.
