Ministry of Health Continues Substance Abuse Awareness

As a means of spreading the message to all citizens especially youths, the Ministry of Health Mental health department team Extended the awareness to few high schools in the country.

Educating high school students on the effects of substance abuse, the Director of Mental Health Unit Dr. Moses Ziah ll and his team outline the harmful effects of substance abuse on mental health and the overall well-being of individuals and communities.

They called on students to join the fight against substance abuse to help make the society a better place to live

The substance abuse awareness is a strong fight against harmful substance that are imposing serious harm on youths in society, ensuring that communities are safer and peaceful.

Ministry of Health commences Employee's Headcount.

The Ministry of Health through the Civil service Agency of Liberia (CSA) on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, begun the process of conducting physical
headcount for all employees at various government health facilities in Liberia.

The Ministry’s employee headcount begun at the Central Office and is expected to be extended to various counties across the country.

Employee's Identification Card, National Identification Card, Professional Documents, and Staff Attendance are key requirements needed to ensure that an individual is a legitimate employee of the Ministry.

This means that in the absence of the above requirements, individuals claiming to be Government employees will not be identified as such and he/ she stands to bear consequence of such claim.

The head count is a Governmental process that’s intended to add value to Government‘s spendings, particularly salaries, as in making sure that employee's receiving Government’s salaries are legitimate staff of the Ministry.

Health Minister, Dr. Louise M. Kpoto Constitutes National Health Sector Task Force

(May 21, 2024, Congo Town/Monrovia)—The Minister of Health, Dr. Louise M. Kpoto, has constituted “National Health Sector Task Force” to build a healthcare system that operates with transparency and accountability, focusing on quality patient care and provision of a conducive working environment for dedicated service providers in the health sector.

The Taskforce comprises the Liberia Medical and Dental Council, Liberia Medicines and Health Products Regulatory Authority (LMHRA), the Liberia Pharmacy Board and the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency (LDEA)

Other are the Ministry of Justice, the National Health Workers Union of Liberia (NAHWUOL), the Independent Health Taskforce of Liberia, the Minister of Health Ex- Officio, and the Chief Pharmacist, Republic of Liberia – (Secretary to the board).

The Chairman of the board of directors of the Liberia Medicines and Health Products Regulatory Authority (LMHRA), Dr. Davis Sumo, will serve as Chair of the Task Force.

Dr. Kpoto mandated members of the Taskforce to carry out a comprehensive assessment of the health sector, both public and private, to identify and document the challenges and bottlenecks that have been hindering the provision of quality health services to the citizenry.

The Health Minister: “With particular emphasis on the monitoring of the distribution and appropriate utilization of medicines and medicinal products provided by both Donors and Government to the Public Health care institutions.”

She averred that this diverse composition will ensure a holistic and inclusive approach to addressing the systemic challenges that bedevil the health sector.

“The Task Force will work diligently to identify the root causes of issues such as, diversion, and misappropriation of medicines and medical supplies designated for our hospitals and clinics,” Health Minister, Dr. Louise M. Kpoto disclosed.

The Taskforce is to resume its functions immediately.
