Last week and this week I took you through every single ingredient in our Tigernut Powder Blend.

Not because we wanted to fill your timeline with posts. But because we believe that before you put anything into your body consistently, you deserve to know exactly what it is, where it comes from, and why it was chosen.

So let's go back through them one more time.

Tigernut — a root vegetable with thousands of years of dietary history. High in fibre, natural fats, and a mineral profile that makes it one of the more nutritionally complete plant-based ingredients you can find.

Ginger— one of the most documented ingredients in nutrition literature. Carries gingerol, a naturally occurring bioactive compound, and a history of cross-cultural use that spans centuries.

Date — one of the oldest cultivated food crops on earth. A dense source of natural energy, dietary fibre, and antioxidants. And the reason our blend tastes the way it does without a single artificial ingredient.

Clove— small and underestimated. Among the highest known sources of antioxidants in any spice. Quiet in the blend but very much present.

Cinnamon — ancient, well documented, and doing more than one job at a time. Adds warmth, rounds out the blend, and brings its own antioxidant profile to the table.

Five ingredients. Nothing hidden. Nothing artificial. Nothing we cannot stand behind and explain honestly.

That is the standard we hold ourselves to at Enmegz Organic Foods 🌱 — and that standard does not change.

If you have been following along this week and you are ready to try the blend, we would love to have you.

DATE

Date fruit — Phoenix dactylifera — has been cultivated and consumed for thousands of years, particularly across North Africa and the Middle East. It is one of the oldest known food crops in human history. And civilisations that built and sustained themselves on very little did not choose their staple foods carelessly.

So what does it actually contain?

Dates are a dense source of natural carbohydrates, which makes them one of the more reliable sources of energy you can get from whole food. They also carry dietary fibre, and a notable mineral profile — potassium and magnesium in particular are present in meaningful amounts.

They are also rich in antioxidants. Among commonly consumed fruits, dates rank well in antioxidant content. That is not a small thing when you are thinking about the overall quality of what goes into a blend.

What I find particularly valuable about dates from a formulation standpoint is that they bring natural sweetness without the need to add anything artificial. The blend tastes the way it does partly because of the dates. But they are not in here for taste alone, they are in here because they carry real nutritional weight.

A good ingredient should do more than one job. Dates do exactly that.

CINNAMON

There are ingredients that exist quietly in the background of human history — and then there is cinnamon.

Cinnamon — Cinnamomum verum — has been documented in some of the oldest written records known to mankind. Ancient Egypt. Ancient China. The Bible references it. Trade routes were built around it. For most of human history, it was considered more valuable than gold in certain parts of the world.

That is a long time for something to remain relevant. And it has remained relevant because it consistently earns its place.

So what is actually in it?

Cinnamon gets its distinctive aroma and warmth from a compound called cinnamaldehyde. This is the dominant bioactive compound in cinnamon and it is what makes it one of the more studied spices in nutrition literature. It is also a meaningful source of antioxidants and like clove, it ranks notably high among spices in this regard.

What I appreciate about cinnamon from a formulation perspective is what it does to a blend. It doesn't just sit there nutritionally, it also works as a natural flavour bridge. It brings warmth. It rounds out the other ingredients. It makes the overall experience of consuming the blend more pleasant without compromising anything.

In this blend, cinnamon is the final layer. And a good final layer doesn't just complete something, it elevates everything that came before it.

Five ingredients. Each one chosen carefully. Each one carrying its own history, its own nutritional identity, its own reason for being here.

That is what Enmegz Organic Foods 🌱 is built on.

CLOVE

If you walked past clove in a market today, you probably wouldn't stop.

It is small. It is dark. It doesn't announce itself the way other ingredients do. And yet, in the history of global trade, clove was once valuable enough to start wars over. European nations built entire naval routes around it. That is not the story of an ordinary ingredient.

Clove — Syzygium aromaticum — is a dried flower bud. And what it carries inside that small, unassuming form is remarkably concentrated.

From a nutritional standpoint, clove is one of the highest known sources of antioxidants among spices. The primary bioactive compound responsible for this is "eugenol", which is also what gives clove its distinctive sharp, warm aroma. When you smell clove, you are essentially smelling eugenol. It is that present in the ingredient.

It also carries manganese in significant amounts. Manganese is a mineral that often goes unmentioned in everyday nutrition conversations but plays a role in how the body processes what it consumes.

In this blend, clove is not the loudest ingredient. You won't taste it prominently. But it is doing something. Ingredients don't need to shout to be effective and clove is a very good example of that.

There is a reason it survived centuries of culinary and nutritional history across almost every culture on earth.

Tomorrow we finish with the ingredient that ties everything together. 🍂

GINGER

There is a reason ginger has never disappeared from our kitchens.

Not in Nigeria. Not in India. Not in China. Not anywhere in the world where people have understood for generations that food is not just about filling the stomach.

Ginger — Zingiber officinale — is a rhizome. A root. And it is one of the most widely studied ingredients in nutrition literature. The volume of research that exists on ginger is not small. It has been examined, tested and written about extensively which tells you something. Ingredients that have nothing to offer don't attract that kind of attention.

So what does ginger actually bring to this blend?

Ginger contains naturally occurring bioactive compounds — the most notable being gingerol. This is what gives ginger its distinctive warmth and aroma. It is also what makes it one of the more interesting ingredients to work with when formulating a blend like this one.

Ginger is also a source of antioxidants. And antioxidants matter because they affect the quality of what you consume and how your body interacts with it over time.

Beyond its nutritional profile, ginger has a long, well documented history of use in food and diet across cultures. That kind of cross-cultural, cross-generational consistency is not coincidence. It is pattern. And patterns built over centuries deserve respect.

That is why ginger is in this blend. It earns its place both nutritionally and historically.

Tomorrow we move to something most people only think of as a sweet treat. 🌴

TIGERNUT

Most people hear the word "Tigernut" and assume it is a nut.

It is not.

Tigernut, known botanically as Cyperus esculentus is a small root vegetable. A tuber, to be precise. And it has been part of human diet for thousands of years, long before the word "superfood" was ever invented.

In West Africa, we have always known it. We grew up eating it raw, drinking it as a milk, using it in different forms.

So what does it actually contain?

Tigernut is notably high in dietary fibre. Among plant-based foods, very few match it in fibre content. And fibre matters — not as a medical claim — but because it is a fundamental part of what a balanced, nourishing diet is built on. It is also a source of natural plant-based fats, carbohydrates, and some vitamins and minerals including Vitamin E, potassium and magnesium.

It is a real, whole food. Not a supplement. Not a chemical. Something that came from the ground, has been eaten by humans for centuries, and carries genuine nutritional value.

That is why it is the foundation of our blend.

Tomorrow I'll introduce you to the next ingredient and why it earned its place alongside this one.

Mrs Ebere Okafor bought my Tigernut Powder for her dad. Before then, she said he wasn’t feeling well and his skin didn’t look good. After he started taking it, she noticed clear changes — he felt better and his skin looked healthier.

Then Mr. Justin Eze came with his own feedback. He said its been helping with his libido. Ahhh, when I heard that one, excitement wanted to finish me.
Feedback like this is why I take what I do seriously.

This is your sign to start taking your health seriously too — not when you’re 60 or 70, but now.

It gives you steady natural energy that lasts — not the type that rises fast and makes you tired later. Even most energy drinks are full of processed sugar, but this one gets its sweetness naturally from dates.
