The girl looked exactly like Maya.

Her breathing stopped for a second.

“Who is this man?” she whispered.

She quickly unfolded the letter. The handwriting was shaky, as though the person had written it with pain in their heart.

“If Maya ever reads this letter, then it means I am no longer alive to tell her the truth myself…”

Maya’s eyes widened.

The letter revealed that the man in the photograph was her real father — not the man who raised her.

Tears filled her eyes immediately.

Her whole life had been built on a lie.

Suddenly, her phone rang.

Unknown Number.

At first, she ignored it.

But the phone kept ringing again… and again.

Her heart pounded as she finally answered.

Before she could speak, a deep voice said softly:

“Maya… I’ve been looking for you for twenty years.”

Maya’s hands shook as she held the phone to her ear.

The voice on the other side sounded old… tired… but familiar in a strange way.

“Who are you?” Maya asked softly.

There was silence for a moment.

Then the man replied:

“My name is Daniel. I’m your father.”

Maya’s heart nearly stopped.

She quickly stood up from the chair, pacing around the room in disbelief.

“No… that’s impossible,” she whispered.

The man sighed deeply.

“Your grandmother promised she would tell you everything when the time was right.”

Maya looked at the photograph again.

The same man.
The same eyes.

Tears filled her face.

“All these years…” she said painfully. “Where were you?”

Daniel’s voice cracked.

“I never abandoned you, Maya. Someone made sure I stayed away.”

Her breathing became heavy.

“What do you mean?”

Before he could answer, Maya heard another voice in the background shouting:

“Daniel! Hang up the phone now!”

The call suddenly ended.

Maya stared at her phone in shock.

At that exact moment, she heard a knock on her apartment door.

Slowly… she walked toward it.

Another knock came. Louder this time.

Her hands trembled as she opened the door halfway.

Standing outside was an elderly woman she had never seen before.

The woman looked directly into Maya’s eyes and said:

“If you want to stay alive, stop looking for your father.”
