Homemade Bubble Gum Recipe
Ingredients
80 g gum base
90 g powdered sugar (plus extra for dusting)
120 ml light corn syrup
5 tsp vegetable glycerin
1 tsp bubble gum flavoring oil
5 drops pink gel food coloring (optional)
Equipment
Heatproof bowl
Double boiler or microwave
Silicone spatula
Mixing bowl
Rolling pin
Parchment paper
Sharp knife or pizza cutter
Instructions
Step 1: Melt the Gum Base
Place the gum base in a heatproof bowl and melt it over a double boiler, stirring occasionally until smooth. Alternatively, microwave in 20–30 second intervals, stirring between each interval.
Step 2: Add Liquid Ingredients
Stir the light corn syrup and vegetable glycerin into the melted gum base until fully combined and smooth.
Step 3: Add Flavor and Color
Mix in the bubble gum flavoring oil. If using, add the pink gel food coloring and stir until the color is evenly distributed.
Step 4: Incorporate the Powdered Sugar
Place the powdered sugar in a mixing bowl. Pour the warm gum mixture over it and gradually mix with a spatula until a thick dough forms.
Step 5: Knead the Gum
Dust a clean work surface with powdered sugar. Knead the gum dough for 5–10 minutes until it becomes smooth, elastic, and no longer sticky. Add a little more powdered sugar if needed.
Step 6: Roll and Cut
Roll the gum into a sheet about ½ cm (¼ inch) thick. Cut into bite-sized squares, strips, or any desired shape.
Step 7: Let It Set
Allow the pieces to rest at room temperature for 2–4 hours until firm.
Step 8: Store
Store the homemade bubble gum in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.
Tips
Do not overheat the gum base, as it can become too stiff.
Wear food-safe gloves when kneading if the mixture is still warm.
Experiment with different food-safe flavoring oils for unique gum flavors.
Dust finished pieces lightly with powdered sugar to prevent sticking.
