Please, who is scraping expiry dates off tin tomatoes?

Because what I saw today, I still can't understand it.

I wanted to make jollof rice and realised I had forgotten to buy tin tomato when I went out for groceries. So I called someone close by to help me get one.

The tin tomato came, and as I was about to open it, I noticed that the top was already looking rusty.

I said, wait o. Let me check the expiry date first.

I turned it over to check the bottom...

Only for me to discover that the expiry date had been scraped off completely.

I was like, what? Why would anybody scrape off the expiry date of a food product?

At that point, I wasn't even interested in using it again.

I called the woman I got it from and told her what I had noticed. I honestly don't know whether it was already like that when she bought it or what happened**?**

This is why I always check expiry dates before buying anything edible, no matter how small the item is.

Because how can you look at a food product and deliberately remove the one information that tells the person buying it whether it is still safe to consume?

And please, let's be careful with these things, food is not something to gamble with.

What would you do if you were the one who bought it?

Would you return it to the seller?
Would you go back to the shop and ask questions?
Or would you simply throw it away?
