Meet one of the exhibitors of Amsterdam Tea Festival 2027: Root Tea.

Root Tea drinkroottea is a London-based tea brand bringing family Chinese herbal blends into a contemporary setting, shaped by founder Jonathan Sun’s Teochew heritage and his personal memories of growing up with tea.

In Jonathan’s family home, tea was part of everyday life. He remembers being offered tea whenever he asked for water, and over time it became something deeply familiar — connected to family, comfort, and care.

A few years ago, Jonathan began learning how to recreate some of the herbal blends his mother regularly prepared at home. This became the beginning of Root Tea and its mission to share these family-inspired blends with a wider audience.

At the festival, Root Tea will present a selection from its collection, including the Puerh Tea Blend, Oolong Tea Blend, Lemon Tea Blend, Five Leaf Tea Blend, and Mint Tea Blend.

Visitors will be warmly invited to stop by, taste the blends, meet Jonathan, and discover how family knowledge, heritage, and personal memory continue to shape the brand today.

As Jonathan says:

“Growing up in a Teochew family, I remember being given tea every time I asked for water.”

We are very happy to welcome Root Tea to Amsterdam Tea Festival 2027 and look forward to sharing their teas and story with you.

If your mood could speak, what tea would it ask you to brew today?

During our team’s visit to a tea house in Georgia, we asked people exactly that.

Some reach for something light and fragrant when they need energy.
Something deep and roasted for a long conversation.
A familiar tea when the day has been too much.
Or a tea that asks for time when they want to slow down and be fully present.

Because choosing tea is not always about knowing the “right” answer. Sometimes it is simply about noticing what you need in that moment.

Georgia’s relationship with tea is deeper than many people realise.

Tea began to take root in western Georgia in the 19th century, and Chakvi became one of the country’s early tea-growing centres. By the 1980s, Georgian tea was produced on a major scale and supplied much of the Soviet market.

After the industry declined, many gardens were left behind. Today, a new generation of growers and small producers is restoring plantations, working with local leaves again, and bringing Georgian black, green, and specialty teas back into focus.

In places such as Guria, tea is still closely connected to hospitality, home, and conversation — something poured while stories are shared and people stay a little longer.

So now we want to ask you:

What is your perfect tea for a rainy morning?
For a celebration?
For a difficult day?
For a first date?
For a quiet evening with someone you love?

Share your tea and your moment in the comments. We would love to know how you match tea to your mood.

What if we took one small thread from the wider Chinamaxxing conversation — the renewed curiosity around tea, ritual, objects, and slower ways of gathering — and followed it a little further?

That is where Teamaxxing begins.

For us, Teamaxxing means giving tea a little more space in everyday life.

It is choosing loose leaves and learning how they change from one infusion to the next. It is finally understanding what a gaiwan does, pouring into a gong dao bei so everyone shares the same brew, and noticing that one “quick cup” can easily become a long conversation.

It is collecting teaware you genuinely use.
Learning where your tea comes from.
Comparing harvests, regions, aromas, and textures.
Making tea for friends.
Trying a blind tasting and discovering that everyone tastes something different.
Keeping a tea pet on the table simply because it makes the ritual more joyful.

And yes, sometimes it also means dressing comfortably because you already know the tea session will last much longer than planned.

Tea has deep roots across many cultures, and Chinese tea traditions have shaped an enormous part of the way tea is grown, made, brewed, and shared today. Teamaxxing is our light, contemporary way of encouraging people to become more curious about that world — and about tea cultures from Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Georgia, India, and beyond.

Not just drinking tea, but paying attention to it.

To the leaves.
The water.
The objects.
The people.
The place it comes from.
And the feeling created when everyone slows down around the same table.

So, what belongs in your Teamaxxing starter pack?

A gaiwan?
A favourite oolong?
A tea pet?
A blind tasting with friends?
Or simply one tea you are excited to understand better?

Tell us in the comments 🍵

Meet one of the exhibitors of Amsterdam Tea Festival 2027: Dancing Tea.

Dancing Tea is rooted in more than a century of Taiwanese tea craftsmanship and the legacy of the Yeh family, pioneering tea growers since 1866.

In 1973, Mr. Yeh Fa-Shan moved from Longtan to Wuhe, Hualien, where he established the region’s first tea farm. His dedication to natural and organic farming helped shape the local tea culture and inspired a new generation of growers.

Today, Dancing Tea carries this heritage forward in a contemporary way.

At the festival, they will present their signature tea powders and tea-based creations, including premium tea latte mixes and versatile culinary tea bases. Visitors will also be able to discover how tea can move beyond the cup through products such as tea-infused ice cream, pastries, popcorn, milkshakes, and other creative applications.

Their work brings together tradition, land, craftsmanship, and innovation — preserving the character of carefully grown tea while exploring new ways for people to experience it in everyday life.

As Dancing Tea says:

“Aroma to smell, tea to taste, stories to feel.”

We are very happy to welcome Dancing Tea to Amsterdam Tea Festival 2027 and look forward to sharing their story, flavours, and vision with you.

Are tea houses becoming the new bars?

Not because people no longer want nightlife. And not because tea has suddenly become another trend to photograph.

What is changing is the way people want to spend time together.

In six major European markets, 71% of consumers say they are buying or drinking less alcohol. Nearly one in four people aged 25–35 has stopped buying it altogether. At the same time, non-alcoholic beverage sales grew by 5.1%, while alcohol declined by 1.8%.

But the interesting part is not only what people are drinking. It is what they now expect from a place.

We still want to meet after work, go on dates, celebrate, discover new flavours, and stay somewhere that feels special. We simply do not always want noise, pressure, or alcohol to be at the centre of the evening.

A good tea house offers another rhythm.

The first brew tastes different from the third. The water, cup, teapot, season, ceramics, architecture, and way the tea is served all become part of the experience. Conversation is not simply happening beside the drink — the process of sharing tea gives it time to develop.

This is what places in Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai, Kyoto, and Paris are already showing. The strongest tea houses are not copying cafés or bars. They are creating complete worlds around tea, bringing together culture, design, craft, hospitality, food, and ritual.

Tea houses are not replacing bars.

They are creating another kind of place to go.

A quieter one. A slower one. A place where staying for another cup means noticing how the same leaves have changed.

Perhaps this is how tea culture grows: not only through the tea we buy, but through the spaces where we learn how to experience it.

Which tea house would you add?

Meet our first exhibitor of Amsterdam Tea Festival 2027: Jeremy Keala Ceramics

Jeremy Jeremy Keala Ceramics creates handmade ceramic teaware inspired by Chinese and Japanese traditions. His work is rooted in years of research and a deep appreciation for tea, resulting in pieces that are made to be used, shared, and enjoyed.

At the festival, Jeremy will present a selection of handmade teaware and warmly invite visitors to stop by, discover the collection, and talk about tea and ceramics together.

As Jeremy says:

“Creating a piece is a dance between the clay and my hands. Hand in hand with the earth, I love to create organic forms that support our mutual love for tea.”

We’re delighted to welcome Jeremy to Amsterdam Tea Festival 2027 and look forward to sharing his work with you.

Things to romanticise if you love tea 🍵

choosing the cup before the tea
waiting for the water to boil
watching the leaves open
using the “good” teapot on a normal day
making tea for someone without asking
keeping one special tea for slow evenings
matching the cup to the mood
letting the first sip reset the day
sitting by the window with warm hands
turning a simple tea break into a small ritual

Because tea is never only about drinking something warm.

It is about the small decisions around it — the cup you choose, the water you wait for, the leaves you watch, the person you share it with, the quiet moment you allow yourself to have.

Sometimes the most beautiful part of the day is not something big.

It is a teapot on the table.
A cup held with both hands.
A few minutes without rushing.
A taste that makes you slow down.

This is also what we love about tea culture: it teaches you to notice more.

Amsterdam Tea Festival 2027 is created for everyone who feels that tea can be more than a drink — it can be a ritual, a conversation, a discovery, a moment of beauty, and a way to connect.

What is a tea festival, actually?

Maybe it starts with tea — but it never stays only there.

Tea is one of the most familiar drinks in the world, but the world behind it is much bigger than most people get to see. There is origin, soil, climate, harvest, processing, brewing, ceramics, hospitality, culture, memory, and the hands of many people before tea ever reaches a cup.

That is what we want to bring closer.

At Amsterdam Tea Festival, tea becomes a way to meet people, discover cultures, taste something new, learn from makers, touch handmade ceramics, sit down for a workshop, listen to a story, or try a tea you have never heard of before.

Some people come because they already love tea.
Some come for ceramics, food, design, culture, or workshops.
Some come simply because they are curious.

And that is exactly the point.

We created Amsterdam Tea Festival to make tea culture more visible — not as something distant or complicated, but as something you can experience, ask about, taste, compare, and understand.

A tea festival is a place where visitors can learn why one tea tastes floral, mineral, roasted, fresh, earthy, or sweet. Why water, temperature, cup, teapot, and time matter. Why a handmade bowl changes the feeling of drinking. Why tea can be part of ceremony, everyday life, design, food, art, and conversation.

It is also a place where brands, producers, importers, ceramic artists, teaware makers, workshop hosts, food creators, and cultural projects can share the story behind what they do.

In 2027, Amsterdam Tea Festival returns for its second edition at Kromhouthal.

Expect tea brands, teaware, ceramics, tastings, workshops, food, performances, cultural moments, and people from different parts of the tea world coming together for one day in Amsterdam.

A place to taste.
A place to learn.
A place to meet.
A place to see tea differently.
