Steroid-induced telangiectasia & purpura — an important reminder ⚠️
A 16-year-old male presented with prominent reddish–violaceous discoloration over pre-existing striae.
📌 History: He had been applying clobetasol propionate over the striae for approximately 3 weeks, without a medical indication for potent topical steroid therapy.
🔍 Clinical findings:
The appearance is consistent with steroid-induced cutaneous atrophy with prominent superficial vessels/telangiectasia and purpuric discoloration. Potent topical corticosteroids can thin the skin and increase superficial vascular fragility, leading to telangiectasia and purpura/ecchymosis.
⚠️ Important: Clobetasol does not treat stretch marks and inappropriate use can cause significant skin damage.
If you have a skin concern, please consult a qualified dermatologist rather than seeking treatment from unqualified practitioners. The right diagnosis and treatment can prevent avoidable complications.
