Hey folks, just letting you know I’ll be at The Indoor Market - Matariki Weekend, Poverty Bay Bowling Club, Ormond Rd on Sunday.

I’ll be running a raffle to help raise funds for our awesome organiser who has been informed she has to do a traffic management course by GDC for the cone laying on winter markets Gizzy Monthly Market.

$100 Bored Beekeepers product. $2.00 a ticket. Numbers 1-40. Once all tickets are sold and paid for, the next lotto bonus ball will determine the winner.

Gizzy Monthly Market Good morning! I’m getting ready for tomorrow’s market. Melting wax for taper candles and hauling out my products ready to pack into my trusty RAV. I’ve been creating for Mothers Day. I’ll be giving away a $50.00 credit to one lucky shopper tomorrow. Pics to follow

🐝🐝Did you know honey bees have age-based jobs? The hive is like a well-run community, with each bee doing its part based on age. It’s fascinating how organized they are!

Here’s how it works:

🐝🐝Nurse Bees (1–2 weeks old)

These young worker bees stay inside the hive to care for the brood—feeding larvae, cleaning cells, and keeping the hive just the right temperature and humidity.

🐝🐝House Bees (2–3 weeks old)

As they grow older, they take on more responsibilities—such as processing incoming nectar and pollen, regulating airflow, acting as undertakers by removing dead bees, and maintaining the overall hive environment.

🐝🐝Forager Bees (3+ weeks old)

The oldest bees become foragers, flying long distances to collect nectar, pollen, water, and propolis. They’re the ones doing the famous waggle dance to show others where the food is!

This age-based job system is called temporal polytheism—it keeps the hive running like clockwork and makes the most of each bee’s strengths.

If you are one of our Auckland friends please help us. This is obviously the best way to try and combat a major biosecurity incursion, citizens science, if you see a large (bigger than wasps) wasp like creature take a photo and send to MPI.
