As one of the stall holders at the very beginning of the Gizzy Monthly Market firstly I’d like to thank Dee for the vision to start the market & our current market management for taking that and in the summer months growing it to showcase the clever Gisborne crafters who create and market to you. We are growing bigger & better every year.

To our regular market supporters thank you for showing up chatting and buying our products so we can challenge ourselves to be better for you. Without you we wouldn’t be able to do what we do.

At the Rose Garden we are gratefully next to our long standing Gisborne Farmers Market. Complimentary not competitive.

In the height of summer, we just would not fit on Reads Quay. Plain and simple fact.

Where would our locals & visitors park? We watch you cross the bridge, on a beautiful sunny day, teenagers, couples, family groups. Out of town people, who rate our market as one of the most authentic markets in the country. (I’m a talker, so I know this having talked to hundreds of visitors over the years.)

If we were moved to Reads Quay we would have challenges with our gear and how we set up. - Ever tried to hold a gazebo, providing shade for product & customers on a raging windy day? We have. Tent pegs carefully placed away from trees work. Sandbags on legs do not. I’ve watched brand new gazebos blow away and turn into crumpled piles of unusable metal & fabric. It is heart breaking for the vendors.

Our market management and Farmers market management have attended all of the stakeholders meeting on our behalf, vendors and buyers. They have expressed these views and have not been listened to.

These are the things that Council out of town Consultants can not find in one or two visits.

The heart in Gizzy & Tairāwhiti are our people. If they aint our people, understand how hard it’s been economically and socially in our city, then they shouldn’t make shiny, slick ideas that our ratepayers will pay for.

PS GDC, there is a product that can be put down that provides a solid base and grass grows through it. It can be mowed over and there used to be some in the Marina car parks closest to the river. Just because it’s an older, more cost effective, pragmatic solution doesn’t mean it couldn’t work. Work smarter, do better & most of all please listen to our people & our ratepayers. Water also drains through it.

Hey folks, just letting you know I’ll be at The Indoor Market - Matariki Weekend, Poverty Bay Bowling Club, Ormond Rd on Sunday.

I’ll be running a raffle to help raise funds for our awesome organiser who has been informed she has to do a traffic management course by GDC for the cone laying on winter markets Gizzy Monthly Market.

$100 Bored Beekeepers product. $2.00 a ticket. Numbers 1-40. Once all tickets are sold and paid for, the next lotto bonus ball will determine the winner.

Gizzy Monthly Market Good morning! I’m getting ready for tomorrow’s market. Melting wax for taper candles and hauling out my products ready to pack into my trusty RAV. I’ve been creating for Mothers Day. I’ll be giving away a $50.00 credit to one lucky shopper tomorrow. Pics to follow
