Inspired by Gustav Klimt’s The Kiss. ✨

This week’s NZ Nail Summit 6 Week Challenge was all about Visual Design and taking inspiration from a piece of art.

Rather than recreating the painting, I wanted to capture the feeling of Klimt’s work through flowing gold details, geometric shapes, spirals and rich textures, while adding my own interpretation in nail form. The patterns travel across each nail to create balance, movement and harmony as one complete design.

A challenge that definitely pushed me outside my comfort zone, but one I thoroughly enjoyed.

Challenge: Week 5 – Art Gallery
Judging Criteria: Visual Design

🍃 Azure Fronds 🍃

This week’s Colour of the Week challenge had me reaching for a vibrant azure blue. I wanted to keep the artwork light and uncomplicated, so I paired it with delicate hand-painted white fronds that flow across each nail.

It’s a reminder that not every design needs to be loud. Sometimes a simple idea, painted well, says everything.

Created for Week Five of the 6 Week Challenge.

🖤 Venom in Bloom 🐍

This week’s challenge was to combine three nail trends into one design. I ended up using cat eye, blooming gel, and isolated chrome, then couldn’t help myself and added a little 3D snake too. I really wanted each technique to have its own moment while still working together as one design. I had so much fun creating this one.

One of my favourite parts of nail challenges is the catch-ups with the team. 💛 While we get lost in colours, art, and way too many embellishment choices, the kids happily disappear into the world of Mario Kart on the Switch. 🎮

Swipe through to see Nikaela’s very serious “I’m finding the perfect embellishment” face… because every tiny detail matters! 😂 Sometimes it’s these simple moments together that make challenge days just as special as the finished nails. ✨

Violet Reverie

There’s something so calming about working with shades of violet. Layering translucent colour until it softly blooms across the nail, then adding just enough gold to catch the light, was all this set needed. Simple, elegant, and one I genuinely enjoyed creating.

Ripples of Serenity

There’s something peaceful about watching a single leaf drift across still water. The moment it touches the surface, gentle ripples begin to spread, turning a quiet scene into something full of movement.

That simple moment became the inspiration behind this week’s 3D challenge. Using a sculpted leaf to create dimension, I wanted to capture the calm, the movement, and the beauty that nature creates without even trying.

Sometimes serenity isn’t found in silence… it’s found in the ripples.

🍃 Created for the NZ Nail Tech Summit 6 Week Challenge – Week Four: 3D.

Colour in Motion 🎨

Sometimes all it takes is a few flowing lines and a splash of colour to create something that feels alive. This bespoke set combines vibrant brushstrokes with playful details on a soft neutral base, proving that even the shortest nails can tell a beautiful story.

✨ Hand-painted and designed just for my client.

🌸 Orchid Eclipse 🌸

Some designs don’t need to shout to be noticed.

Orchid Eclipse blends soft orchid pinks and cool blue tones with bold dragon-inspired scales, creating a design that’s delicate at first glance but reveals its strength the closer you look. A little elegance, a little mystery, and a reminder that beauty and power can exist together.
