Terra Sulis Soap Bars

This morning I made soap. 'RELAX' Is part of the Terra Sulis soap core collection and is sold out on line. I dropped off the last 2 bars to Rach at .vintage.studio on Spring St, Tauranga this week - as she had also sold her supply - so it was time to replenish the curing racks.

The Mint and Cucumber is a seasonal soap. The mint and cucumber puree has been in my freezer for a few months. I grow it all spray free in my garden, and Ive been crafting the recipe this whole time 🌱

Using your hands to stir, knead, grind or pour can reduce anxiety

Because these are the things we used to do when we were safe, doing them can calm and reassure our brain.

Have we been marketed to so much that we are now conditioned to head straight to the pharmacy when our skin is irritated or when we can't sleep?

This balm is a small rebellion against the way convenience has replaced connection with nature.

I use Kawakawa as it's easily found in coastal and lowland forests. It has a heart shaped leaf, just check it is pesticide & herbicide free if you are foraging for it.

In Australia look for Tasmanian Pepperberry, in the US, California & North & Central America look for Echinacea root, Bearberry, Alder, Wax Myrtle amoung others, and in the UK, Ireland, & Europe Yarrow, Elecampane, Elder, & Plantain (Plantago Major). Note these are recommendations for topical balms only. Always cease use If irritation occurs.

Apothercary healing insight
When you see small holes in Kawakawa leaves (made by the Kawakawa Looper Moth), you are looking at the most potent medicine.
​Māori rongoā teaches that when the moth nibbles the leaf, the plant reacts by pumping more medicinal resins to that area to protect itself. Nature Slays!

Ingredients for heat rash balm

2 tablespoons dried, or 8 tablespoons fresh shredded leaves
2 tablespoons dried finely ground leaves

A) Castor Oil 25g
A) Shea Butter 25g (or 20g Cocoa Butter)
A) Candelilla Wax 14g (or Beeswax)
B) Olive Oil 30g (you can use avocado or coconut instead)
B) Jojoba Oil 15g (can also be swapped for olive, coconut or avocado oil)
C) Vitamin E 1-2g (optional)
C) Tea Tree or Manuka essential oil

DM for process as fresh leaves need an extra step

This recipe has been specifically developed for treatment of heat rash, & can be used to soothe insect bites, hives, & eczema.
