Everyone carries tension somewhere different. For some it's the feet, for others the shoulders, the jaw, or the brow. Noticing where you hold it is the first step. Releasing it is where a FaceUp® Method treatment comes in.

Facial tension often starts a long way from the face. Here's how it actually travels.

Why does a FaceUp® Method treatment often start by asking about the whole body, not just the face? Because tension doesn't stay where it starts. Standing all day, tight hips, a stiff lower back, all of it can travel upward and settle as tightness through the jaw, temples or brow. Treating the face without considering what's happening elsewhere in the body only ever gets you part of the way. That whole-body view is central to how I work at Hands On Studio in Te Puke.

Come and feel the difference. Book Thursday or Friday in Te Puke.

Sometimes the most tired part of your face has nothing to do with your face. Tension travels. It moves up through the body until it finds somewhere to settle, and the face is often where it ends up last. Next time something feels tight up top, it's worth checking in further down.

Let that sit with you today.

Can tension in your feet actually affect how your face looks? It sounds unlikely, but the body works as one connected system, not separate parts. Hours on your feet, tight shoes, or simply carrying stress through the day can create tension that travels upward through the legs, hips, back and neck, eventually showing up in the face as tightness or a tired look. It's one of the reasons I never think about the face in isolation during a FaceUp® Method treatment at Hands On Studio in Te Puke.

You don't need to be exhausted to deserve care. Sometimes the body just needs a signal that it's safe to stop bracing, and that's exactly what intentional touch does. It's a quiet but real part of why a FaceUp® Method treatment leaves people feeling calmer, not just looking softer.

It's not just relaxing, it's a physical shift your nervous system can measure. Here's how touch actually calms the body.

Why does intentional touch calm the nervous system? Your skin is your largest sensory organ, filled with specialised receptors constantly sending information to the brain. Intentional touch activates nerve fibres that signal safety, connection and calm. In response, the body begins to shift out of fight or flight and into the parasympathetic nervous system, the state where we rest, digest, repair and heal.

This is one of the reasons my FaceUp® Method treatments at Hands On Studio in Te Puke are so much more than a beauty treatment. Every slow, intentional movement invites your nervous system to soften, and when it does, the body often follows.

Softening isn't the same as giving up. It's what happens when the body finally believes it's allowed to stop bracing. If you've been holding on tightly to everything lately, this is your reminder that you're allowed to put some of it down.

Let that sit with you today.

Why does slow, intentional touch feel so different from a quick massage? Your nervous system reads them differently. Rushing, multitasking, holding it together, to your body, it can all register the same way as danger. Slow, deliberate touch during a FaceUp® Method treatment signals something different: safety. That signal is part of why the work does more than change how your face looks, here at Hands On Studio in Te Puke.

This is the work, every session. Book Thursday or Friday in Te Puke.
