Jesus Is Lord Barbershop our whānau is back at it again tonight! ❤️
​A massive thank you to our amazing community for all your love and support with what we do every Friday night. We love what we do, and we are driven with so much love, passion, and care for our whānau who are living out on the streets.
​Tonight, we have hot soup, curry sausages with hot rice, and sausages and bread, along with plenty of warm clothing, socks, underwear, blankets, and sleeping bags available tonight to our whānau who are cold, struggling, and living it rough and hard out on the streets. Looking forward to being with everyone tonight.❤️💙

Friday Night Gratitude Post 🌌

​Big love and thanks to our awesome community! We are so grateful for all the ongoing donations and to those who have offered to assist with kai and supplies for our Friday night runs.
​Our community outreach is built on pure heart and generosity, and we appreciate everyone who steps up to support our whānau on the streets without expecting anything in return.
​Thank you and praise the lord for keeping our people cared for and fed! 🤝 ❤️

Whangārei Deserves Better: Why Don’t We Have a Community Board⁉️

​Across New Zealand, places like the Far North and Auckland have community boards—groups of local people right on the ground who actually care, roll up their sleeves, and do the mahi for their neighborhoods.
​Yet here in Whangārei, we have never had a single community board since 1989.
​Instead, everything is tied up in a distant, top-down council at Forum North. When everyday people, vulnerable whānau, and our disabled community need real support, we are left at the mercy of a system full of red tape where you have to beg and wait just to get basic attention.
​We don't need more empty talk. We need a community board made up of real, grounded grassroots people who actually step up, get out there, and fight for those who don’t have a voice—without excuses.
​If other regions can have local boards that put power back into the hands of the people, why can't Whangārei?

‼️Community ​Grassroots Support vs. Empty Politics‼️

Last night we set up the tables and turned on the heat pump inside the shop to give our whānau a warm, dry space and hot kai out of the cold weather. It is always a humbling blessing to connect with them every Friday.
​While agencies like Kāinga Ora have housed some, big gaps remain. We still have no emergency shelter—proving how these so-called leaders keep failing our community over and over again.
​And now we see the fallout of these heavy-handed tactics. One of our regulars was recently targeted by police and ended up behind bars, with a short sentence used as an excuse to ship him all the way down to Auckland. Whether it's move-on orders or arbitrary policing, it clearly shows the system has failed them once again and keeps on failing them. It has to stop.
​Meanwhile, Mayor Ken Couper and local leaders are too busy scrambling to meet government amalgamation deadlines before August 9 just to save their own political skins and structures. They can't even sort out basic community needs like a proper emergency shelter, yet they're out here advertising their meetings and talking about all the "good" they're doing. What an absolute load of rubbish. They haven't done a damn thing for our most vulnerable people.
​Until real solutions arrive, we will keep doing what we love: making sure our people have full tummies, warm clothing, blankets, and true dignity.

‼️Move On Orders‼️

​We completely reject this bill. Homelessness is not a crime—it is a total failure and neglect of the system.
​Move-on orders are a pathetic excuse to sweep our vulnerable people out of sight. Our whānau sleeping rough, in cars, or in tents have names, stories, and deep trauma; pushing them along only causes more harm.
​The funded organizations, trust boards, and council have failed our people. While they sit on their hands and waste money on unnecessary things, grassroots groups do the actual mahi on the ground. There are empty buildings right around the CBD that could be a shelter today, yet proposal after proposal to the mayor is met with total silence.
​Throwing millions at programs doesn't put a roof over anyone's head. Stop criminalizing poverty, stop hiding the problem, and fund a proper community shelter run by the grassroots.
​No matter why someone is on the street, they are human beings with dignity, not a burden.

‼️Taking Our Mission to the Heart of the City‼️

​Our need for a centralized space in the Whangārei CBD to better serve our whānau has become a critical necessity
​We are currently working hard to secure land and support opportunities that will allow us to bring our services into the heart of the city, where our people need them most. We are navigating these possibilities with focus and care, and we are grateful for the doors that are beginning to open to help make this happen.
​A huge thank you to everyone who has been standing with us and working behind the scenes on this vital mahi. Your aroha is what keeps this movement going. 💙
​We will share more when the time is right, but for now, our commitment remains on the immediate needs of our people and keeping our hearts open to those who need us most. 🙏🫶

​Tonight has been so incredibly beautiful. We have had the privilege again of feeding and clothing our whānau on the streets, ensuring they are safe, warm, and cared for. It’s amazing how a little time and kindness can make such a huge difference.

​💙 To my darling Tony thank you always for being there for us, helping to prep things with me, and making sure our whānau got home safely and where they needed to be.
​We are actually so incredibly blessed to witness our community showing up. Our whānau were blessed, accepted, loved, full, and warm. The Lord is wonderful. See yous tomorrow night 🙏

It is truly incredible to see so many groups and individuals out there right now sharing the care for our wider community. Seeing everyone come together to support our whānau who are doing it tough in the cold is so moving.
​But it goes beyond that. It is heartening to see the support being extended to so many others in need within our community—whether it’s providing a warm, hearty kai or simply showing up for those who need a little extra help. ​Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou katoa.
